Quick bit of road bike sizing needed.

I'm looking to buy a new road bike, hopefully going to head to Paul's Cycles to get my leg over a couple of Cube Agree bikes.

I've not had a road bike for a year or so but my previous was a 56cm Ridley Orion with a top tube length of 55.5cm, which felt about right.

The Cube Agree is available in 56 and 58cm models but the top tubes are measured as 54.5cm and 56cm - From what I can see I therefore need the 58cm frame - I was always told the Top Tube lenght was the most important measurement, is there more to it than this?

I'm just under 6ft.

I'm 6'2" and ride a 54 seat tube c/c. Cannot recall what the top tube is but in my mind, both are equally important. I prefer a slightly smaller frame with more seat pin showing. From the centre of the top tube to the top of my saddle is 25cm.

I would think I would rather have the reach 1cm less than 1/2 cm more.

Cube sizing is a bit odd and doesn't actually match the numbers they quote.

However asking about bike sizing on the internet is a bit pointless. You will gain much more by swinging a leg over a bike and seeing how it fits. Test riding is also a bonus, but not always possible.

I am always a bit confused by the Pauls Web site. They appear to be flogging bikes that are three years old!

I'm also just under 6ft and when I ordered a Cube I got a 56cm as I'd previously been sold a 58cm road bike after a particularly poor bikefit.

The 56cm Cube was tiny. It looked like a kids bike. I managed to get it sent back and got a 58cm sent to me instead.
By comparison my new Trek Domane is a 56cm and fits perfectly.

Thanks for the responses, Paul's isn't far from me so I was going to request both sizes to be out for me to try - i have seen a few "56"cm frames recently where if you study the geo, nothing actually relates to the size stated, it's not just cube..

"Size", effective top tub length and head tube length are bks. Go by the stack and reach, and don't forget to factor in changes to stack and reach when you add any headset/spacers, different length/angle stems etc.

Cube sizing is definitely a bit strange. My daughter has just got an Agree which is a 60cm in Cube sizing. A deal was done on a 56 Tarmac but when she came to be fitted it turned out there was less than an inch of adjustment left on the seat post for growth room. She is 14 and 5'8" but has long legs. The Cube needed a shorter stem but otherwise fits well.
