Pondering on a D4 purchase (has to be 4 and not 3 because Mrs LT has got used the rear camera on our evoque and thinks she would need it and believe it wasnt an option on a 3). Having done some research about the various changes in the different MY since 2009/2010, looks like I have a couple of key differences and wondering if they are 'wouldn't bother buying one that isn't xxxx'
TDV6 or SDV6 - much difference? Looks to be improved output and torque, but noticeable? I see after 2012 performance was increased again.
6 speed or 8 speed (with the pop up control and paddle shifts) - would it be worth the extra money for the 8 speed? I am guessing it would be a smoother change etc, but that much smoother?
I know the answers will be a bit subjective, but might help me.
Any other key items I have missed?

I wouldn't be too fussed about TDV6 vs SDV6, as long as it's the D4 and the 3.0.
The 8spd box does make a big difference to the comfort/drivability but if you're concerned about MPG, go for a completely different car... There's only so much you can get out of a car that's 2.7t and the size of a small house.

Had both a D3 HSE and a D$ HSE 2010 with the 6 Speed Auto. As a previous poster has suggested, there is a huge difference between the two in terms of Performance, Interior and IMHO, the exterior of the D4 looks much better. I considered upgrading the D4 to the later model with 8 speed and slightly more power however, a back to back test drive didn't reveal enough difference to justify the cost to change.
I picked up a D4 SDV6 from a dealer just before Christmas. It has the 8 speed box (2012 MY onwards) and is on a 61 plate.
I specifically wanted this combo, and IMO it is worth looking out for one. It transforms the car in daily use, the 8 speed box really makes a huge difference. I stretched my original budget to get this spec, and I really think it was worth it. Had I not, I would have felt I made a big compromise.
I got a HSE, it came with reverse cam, park heating, upgraded leather etc. Very well specced, which makes it a nice place to spend time.
The added bonus is that you now get 2 years warranty and breakdown on approved used cars from Land Rover. Lots of info on disco4.co.uk if you need any advice.
Best of luck!

Thanks for the replies guys, food for thought. Need to do some more sums and research I think.
And absolutely not buying for MPG - if I was, I would be keeping my Evoque and not trading it in for the Disco
Re last post - the 2 year warranty from dealers has not escaped my attention and from a bit of a compare of normal trade and dealer trade prices, there doesn't appear to be that much difference when you compare similar models/year/mileage etc. I thought that perhaps the dealer prices maybe higher to pay for the warranty. Certainly would give me some reassurance of no significant un-budgeted spend.
