The teams are quite open about flogging them off: The former Garmin-Cervelo team offloaded their old bikes at the end of every season, and Sky sell theirs via "invited" sales (Sky customers, IIRC). WyndyMilla sell off their ex-team bikes themselves too. Obviously they're on a smaller scale, but you can buy a team liveried ex race bike from them for little more than the cost of a custom frameset of the same model. Recent teams they've supplied bikes for include Team UK Youth and Team MG Maxifuel. I seriously considered one, especially because some of the MG Maxifuel bikes were in female riders' sizes at the smaller end of the scale, which is good for me at only 5'6". Sadly they were still out of budget, when you take into account that they are supplied without wheels.
A year or 18 months or so ago they had Hannah Barnes' race mountain bike for sale. It was a lovely, light racing machine, but again, far too rich for my wallet
They've sold several of Magnus Backstedt's bikes in the shop/website too, although for obvious reasons they'd be no use to me
