So I'm quite keen on a Seiko Marinemaster 300M.

Its a good solid diver, without going quite to the price range of a Rolex or Tudor, that also seems to hold reasonable value in case an upgrade down the road becomes a necessity. i..e. when they finally release a spring drive diver that isn't GIGANTIC.

However, the questions are - which version, where to buy and how much to pay?

I stopped by the Seiko boutique and they have the 50th anniversary gold-accented model (they are calling me back for price, as they are getting more Divers including the Grand Seiko Spring Drive titanium grail watch in this week), but i wonder if the gold is a little blingy, since the watch wears quite big?

Its also a little more expensive than the MM300 for a little bit of detailing.

the regular version:

With the dollar so high against the yen, higuchi and seiya would make sense for a sale from Japan, but are there any other international sellers (new or used) who are worth considering? These list for about $1,800-2,000 USD but I'm sure discounts are out there.

I personally prefer the standard SBDX001 over the 6159-7001 re-release however such things are highly subjective.

As for where to get them from, if you're considering pre-owned then I would imagine that there'd be plenty of sellers on watchuseek.com. I don't go on there often however I believe that most sellers on there are U.S. based.

Oooof these are getting very tempting now as the Yen weakens against the dollar, especially with rumours the replacement Seiko divers will be a LOT more expensive.

1,000 sterling for one of these is making the credit cards rustle.

For a new SBDX001? I paid that pre-owned.

What about duty/taxes? To be added to that, I presume? Still, a £1k starting price isn't bad...
