I recently took the plunge and had the new self healing film fitted to my GT3. I had the complete front end done as well as the mirrors and sills. Very very pleased with the results and the professional job and the guys who fitted it. You can hardly tell it's there.

Snap!!

I used PaintShield for mine. Full front, mirrors, sills, inner rear arches. Can't see it unless your 2 inches away.

I went to the paintshield website and contacted the nearest fitter. They will quote depending how much you have done. I found that you can negotiate on price.

Can highly recommend both paint shield and their product. Had both my cgt and scud done. The film is practically invisible and weathers well.

Looked at a few films and Paintshield in Peterborough for me was great. Their film is pre-cut and the job was impeccable. Full front for a 997 was around £1800.

The point being??

I had mine done AFTER a respray. No point doing it over chipped 10 year old paint.

Molly's point is that, unless you keep the car for many years, a re-spray is both cheaper and more effective.

£100 quids worth of vinyl and £1700 to fit ??

I`ve DIY`d 2 previous cars using pre cut films. E46 M3 cost me £50 delivered from the states and my Exige £150 direct from Lotus.

Mark up is crazy !

This is no argument IMHO having very much done both. IF you use your car in ways that are likely to cause lots of chips and road rash (And that means some quick driving, track days and following mates etc) then your problem is your pride and joy is imperfect all the time to greater or lesser extent.
From the starting point you will have a deteriorating car that will just continue to get worse until you spend at least a grand getting it returned to perfect. With paint that is just not as hard as the factory applies , so the chipping is worse thereafter.
Compared to that you spend not much more protecting the cars front with an almost invisible layer of film that continues to look perfect for years

All makes sense to me

Very expensive. Similar products known to yellow over the years. Does this set any expectation around that and how long it may last?

The new films don't do that, they are much thinner and nearly invisible. Paintshield's product self repairs too.

I have to say that from B pillars forward on a Porsche with a couple of other bits that £1300 is what you should be paying.

Ok, thanks for the pointer. Have you tried to take it off either car yet?

I had no issue with paint coming away but obviously each film could be different, I guess ?
