Which cross? Genesis Day One Alfine 8 Cross vs Giant TCX SL2

I've received my LoC for the Halfords C2W scheme and have decided I want to go for a cross bike. I'm researched out and have decided on either the Genesis Day One Alfine 8 Cross or the Giant TCX SL2. What do you guys reckon? Am I missing any other decent bikes at £1000? I won't be able to demo them unfortunately before I make the purchase.

Not if he's budgeting £1000 AFTER his C2W discount. That's why I asked whether his budget included the discount or not.

Yes, £1000 max and I can't contribute to it unfortunately. BTW, that Pickenflick bike is stunning.

What are your intentions for the bike? If I was mainly using it as a commuter I'd get the genesis, I have ridden the non alpine off road and enjoyed it however to go off-road I would probably pick the Giant although overdrive2 annoys me on my giant MTB. But I was thinking the other day in the mud the geared hub would be brilliant although I couldn't comment on alfine just rohloff.

Mostly for commuting 10 miles to work. 8 of the miles are on a flat greenway. Can't see me going proper off road too often. I'm also really liking this one now:

No mudguard mounts on the On One/Planet X so you'd have to bodge a fit with P-Clips. Maybe a factor for a commuter? In fact, does the Giant have mudguard mounts?

I can thoroughly recommend the Specialized Diverge for a go anywhere bike.

I have the Giant and it doesn't have mudguard mounts. It is a great bike but the cable disc brakes are crap. They aren't that powerful and need constant adjustment. I am saving up for the TRP hydraulic callipers.

I have the Day One, fitted with guards and a rack it's a perfect commuter bike - the big-ish tyres and steel frame make it really comfortable, and on the ride to work I'm not that bothered about setting new Strava records so the weight doesn't bother me too much and it rolls along very nicely.

However, if I didn't already have a couple of other bikes I'd probably have bought a Croix de Fer instead which is a bit lighter and has a normal groupset rather than the hub gears. Hub gears are great for low maintenance but less good if you have a rear puncture.

I just looked at the Giant - that's much more of a proper cross bike than the Genesis, which is more urban/road focused so it depends on the type of riding you do. The closest Genesis to the Giant would be a CdA or Croix de Fer

The Day-One will certainly do the CX stuff, but the tyres are much more road biased and it's probably 2kg heavier than the alu framed derailleur bikes.

Thanks for the replies guys. I found out this morning that the C2W scheme my employer is using can't supply On-One or PlanetX etc. They provided me with a list and I've ordered this:
