Hi,

Like all 997.2 GT3 owners I got a letter from Porsche advising that there is special care to be taken with respect to the rear wheel hubs, etc for cars fitted with center locks - namely that the rear hubs need to be changed after approx 7000km of track use.

Last year I traded my 9972. GT3 for an RS 4.0 - a nice upgrade, but I don't know the exact track usage history of the car. Given its current mileage I can make some educated guesses. I had my local OPC (in Switzerland) make me a quote, so I know what to expect.

However - has anyone here heard of any actual issues ocuring after prolonged track use for these cars?

At Spa last year I came across a driving instructor claiming that he knew of two people/cars that broke their rear hubs - but it would be nice to have some confirmation before making the expense...

Thanks!

Michael

Hello Michael,

The Rennlist thread below has some stories, emotion and dross. There have been some failures but with proper maintenance and observation of lifetime limits it should be fine. The issue of sellers not reporting track usage is where the whole thing falls down. When I sold my GTS (nearing first hub/bearing replacement mileage) I was not asked by the Porsche Centre what track mileage the car had done, even though they knew I was doing 15 track days a year and had replaced 3 sets of front disks I had worn through in 12 months.

See http://rennlist.com/forums/997-gt2-gt3-forum/65058...

There is another recent thread http://911uk.com/viewtopic.php?t=100435 where a 997 GT3 owner converted to 5 lug at Centre Gravity in the UK.
