2k tops - Mountain bike, new or used?...

For general trails such as Cannock, bikepark wales etc. If you had 2k would you go for something second hand like this, with all the upgraded bits you'd ever want

BPW is more on the Dh side of things so an Enduro style bike, I'd not even spend £2k when a Commencal Meta AM can be had new due to the good exchange rates for less €1999 = £1476

I don't know about that - I live in a relatively flat part of the country (East Anglia) so thought the Strive would be too much for my local trail centre, TBH the Spectral is too for most of it but there are sections where it is a lot of fun - My Hardtail makes more sense locally...I'm sure the Strive will be suitable if your riding Cannock / Wales mostly, I think the travel is comparable to the YT Capra also http://www.yt-industries.com/en/products/bikes/end...
Used should get you a great bike, use reputable classifieds forums like STW and 99% of the sellers are genuine bike nuts who maintain and upgrade their kit. That said, 2k on a s/h bike is a risk as per the previous posts, and for the kit that your money gets you from the likes of Canyon, why wouldn't you go new? Depends what you want really, If it's a full sus I'd seriously look s/h to maximise the budget, if it's hardtail, then 2k gets you a lot of bike new....
You can ride anything anywhere. A mate rode his 80mm whippet hardtail there at BPW without any real issues. A decent full suss bike with a sensible weight for climbing and traversing is better than a massive travel heavyweight bike.

Its a bit of a lump, but will roll up the climbs and hides my glimmer of talent. But its not a bike I would want for flatter lands, just up and downs.

You have some change, a new bike, manufacturers warranty, sensible travel stops bogging and a very nice bike. Haters will hate lefties, but they are fantastic. Smaller wheels make it better for tight single track.

At that price range there are some good deals about on 2014 bikes. Ours got stolen just before christmas and the insurance paid out a reasonable amount
I replaced the 2 bikes with a £2k limit per bike. I ride mainly trails and bought a Cannondale F29 carbon 2 (43% off!) Second bike was a Specialized Camber Comp carbon with £800 off list. Tbh the F29 is so bloody good I don't ride the Camber, the wife does!

Yes, they are very good. Better than a second hand Fox 36, which have been rubbish for years (2015 36's are quite nice again though).I'd but the black Canyon Spectral with the Pikes on it for £2k for what you want a bike for.
