nothing is impossible...however they are rarely stolen...I mean you cant get your mates in it for joyriding/ram raiding, you would struggle to break it for spares (too small a market) and its not expensive engough to be stolen enough to order for export.....so the few that have been nicked have mainly been kids mucking around from what Ive heard...only ever heard of 3 or 4 being nicked in the last 3 years across all the Lotus BBS'es

No. Its impossible. Due to the build quality of the car and the bespoke locks and other items used by Lotus you would have more chance of getting into Fort Knox

Not that hard but rarely nicked fortunately. No room for Chav and his 3 mates, not good at loosing police cars over rough ground due to ride heigh and not really stolen to order or for parts due to the close owners community.

So why do some insurance companies insist on a tracker, then?

Wondered that myself! And the tracker unit is quite difficult to hide in a Elise!

some of them just have it set on their system that any car over XX value or Group 19 etc has to have a tracker regardless of whether its high risk for theft etc...complete rubbish IMO as you end up paying £500 more to protect the insurance company against loss !...there are plenty of insurers who will insure an Elise without one though

cos (not generally speaking) but a lot of people who have elises have them for dossing about at the weekend - and a few years ago.. a 20k weekend car often meant a 30-40k everyday car + the wife's + whatever is in the house.

Had mine robbed when i lived with my parents. My 17k elise - a brand new C Class...brand new mini and the contents of the house were untouched !

Gits had got in thru the garage and nicked all the keys.

Tracker thankfully saved the soul of el beast in roughly 45 minutes but the other cars were never to be seen again.

It was soon after sold - as i couldnt stand the thought of a chav sitting in my seat with his burberry cap on scraping his 'sov' against my gearstick.

Trackers: Good for saving a full amount claim. No good if u dont really want your car back.
