Would you buy without service history ........?
Discussion
I wouldn't be concerned if it hasn't been serviced by a main dealer - may of the independents are better anyway.
But i would definitely be concerned if it hasn't been serviced at all
Just my 2p's worth
Edited to say - There's lots of choice at the moment so if you are set on said elise i'd want a hefty discount

I bought my Elise 1 month ago (S2 `03) and it has 24´km on the clock. But the maintenance record booklet is stamped until the B Service (due @ 45´km)
I´d rather have honest records in there...
If the car looks alright take it, if not walk away. There are plenty to choose from at the mo

On older models don't reckon service history is that important - I never have mine serviced at main Lotus dealers as have had too issues with them in the past. Condition and the way it drives is the best guide especially on older models. Good independents are the way to go IMHO.
Over a third of Lotus cars over 3 years old will have been involved in an accident of some kind - this won't show on any dealer stamped book - get it well checked over by someone who knows their way around Lizzies - it's sooo easy to be seduced by the first you see...

Definately get any prospective purchase checked out.
As far as service history goes, I wouldn't get one that has none, for the simple reason there are plenty of reasonably priced examples around with excellent histories.
I always get mine serviced at the franchised dealer whilst they are in warranty. They replaced my alternator FOC - I never knew there was anything wrong with it, as several had developed a fault. Had I saved a few quid on the servicing and the alternator went, I'd be out of pocket picking up the bill for an alternator.
Don't forget that services are on mileage OR time, so an older car may have had it's 45K service but have a much lower mileage.

Actually that doesn't mean that there's anything wrong...
