I have a 2001 996tt US version. It is time to change the oil and I have decided to do it myself. Where are the oil filter/s on this engine. How hard of a task is this oil change? How long will it take?

Mate, if you have to ask it's probably too much of a job to do yourself. No offense to any 996 tt owners on here (and I dare to stand corrected and will eat my words, hat, shorts pants etc of course if wrong) but I doubt any of them do oil changes on the cars themselves - defo one for AFN mechanics to get their hands dirty doing.

Pete, I'm sure it is easy enough to get a workshop manual for the car from Porsche USA - probably about 160 dollars or something. This will have the correct procedure detailed, as it will undoubtedly be more involved than you think. It will also have correct torque setting for any nuts removed etc.

I imagine the 996tt is dry sumped, like earlier 911s, and changing the oil isn't as straightforward as if it had a nice sump plug to undo (?).

Cheers

PS Rennlist may be more use, as they have more 'can do' American owners on their. Some of those guys even tune their tts themselves!

Why would you want to change the oil yourself?

I've only just found where the oil goes in mine
