Greetings all.

Been a long time "watcha" of the forum, and finally decided to join up. I currently own a Ferrari Mondial t which was unfortunately involved in a fire on Christmas morning. My guess is the car will be a write off which is a shame as I bought it less than a year ago. Leaves me with 3 options:

1. Another mondial t.
2. Ferrari 456.
3. Maserati 3200 GT.

As you can see four seats are crucial for me. I would buy a 456 any day, but prices are a little to much for me. I can get a rhd 456 for about 33K, but i wasnt looking to spend that much just now. I havent ruled it out, but looking at other options at the same time. I know plenty about Ferrari's but not much about the 3200 GT.

Can anyone point me in the direction of a website that gives loads of info on the 3200?

Also if i was to buy a Maserati i'd probably look to spend about 25k. Is that a reasonable budget for the car? I would only look at increasing my budget for the 456 as thats my dream car.

Cheers in advance
Adnaan

I've had the previous shape and the one before that. Neither are special enough. Same goes with the 911's. Had a '02 996 and a '88 911. Both were great cars, but the 996 was far too ordinary. I do like the 993 though. Last of the real 911's!

Adnaanr, if you want advice about the 3200 you are in the right place. Several of us have them.

Like you I was keen on the 456. I was advised against the 456 when I bought the 3200 (new). In retrospect they would have cost me the same £ when depreciation and servicing are taken into account.

However, in reality they are very different cars to drive. Putting myself in your shoes, I think the 3200 is slightly more attractive - cheaper to run and insure and significantly more space inside - I can fit 2 babyseats in the rear of mine and squeeze a pram in the boot (as well as some shopping).

If 4 seat practicality is fundamental, the 3200 trumps the 456. That being said, heart often rules head and I am a huge fan of the 456. Not an easy one.

I agree with V12.
had my 3200 GT for a little while now and the rear seats are excellent regarding the space and V12 is right again regarding putting baby seats in the back.
I have twins and the rear seats have plenty of room for 2 baby seats and even though the boot is not massive there is room for a food shop at sainsburys etc.

Not sure of overall running costs as yet except with tyres which are around £181 per front tyre balanced and fitted.

Gutted to hear about the car. I remember reading the thread on Ferrarichat when you picked it up.

At least you can buy something different.

Good luck with whatever you decide to get though.

For advice etc on buying see my profile for details on driving impressions running costs etc.

For 25k you're going to be pushing it to find a decent example from a dealer though.

If you want real in depth info drop me an email and I'll mail you the various info I have collected over the last couple of years.

For all the good points of the 3200, it just looks too subtle for me, where the 456 is unmistakably Ferrari. The wife also likes the 3200 so that must mean it looks like a sensible car

The car is immaculate and was bought from a main dealer in april 2004, so still has all the dealer and waranty benefits until april 2005. Maser Maser calm down my dear boy... please note, I only said "look" sensible

Besides, they're nearly all silver! I mean, what's wrong with a bit a colour splashed about here and there to liven things up a bit

Thanks guys for all your comments. I damn miss not being able to drive my car. Hopefully a matter of time before im behind the wheel of something nice.

Personally if it wasnt for the money it'd be a 456 any day. For me thats my favourite 2+2 car by far. But I wasnt planning on sinking any more money into cars until later in the year, so im considering the alternatives.

The Mondial t is a great car. Great to drive, goes and handles well. Very underrated, and under valued too. Unbelivably practical too, with loads of seat and boot space.

The Maser is new to me. I've liked them for ages, but dont know a thing about them. Do the early auto models come with F1 style gearboxes?

Its good to hear that you guys are actually able to use the rear seats, unlike a 996/911. I had a 996 targa recently, and could get the baby seat to fit due to the slope of the roof line! To be able to fit adult in the back with comfort sounds ideal.

Mr Tony - read your review, and it was a great help! Good to read things from an owners perspective, and very well put.

Craig - I remember you from FChat, and remember you selling your 348. I thought you were nuts! By the sounds of the 3200 its a hidden gem, and you can take your family too!

Ian - You have an email. I know the feeling of house costs. I've been living with my builders for 6 months!

All others- thanks for the comments!

Does anyone have any links to any 3200 related websites? For pics, reviews, buying guides, etc etc...

Cheers again
