Morning all.

The curiosity in me has me wondering how Strava calculates Est power over any given ride?

Also, is there any way of seeing power without a power meter using the same logic as a very rough guideline? I'm far too tight to buy a power meter for £500 +

Cheers

There has been previous discussions on this, I thought the consensus was it was miles off.

There is a chrome plugin for Strava which calculates it differently as well.

If you want to know what your numbers are why not go to a gym with a Watt Bike.

And run through the calibration process before you ride, otherwise it'll likely be way off.

Yep, a lot of the ones I've seen in gyms or that see a lot of use have been quite poor!

I don't know how it does it but I have noticed that it sometimes takes a while. So I assume it compares your ride with the average rider on that route on that day and perhaps against a historical average? Or perhaps compares you against someone who reports an actual power number.
