996 gen 1 vs. 2 headlamps
Discussion
well I am asking because of this:
http://www.mobile.de/cz/zna%C4%8Dka/porsche/model/...
rice,sro:asc,mke
orsche,mdl:911,mld:3,vcg:sportscar/pg:vipcar/202920768.html
it looks like gen 2 but they say it is 3.4 engine, so I am confused. I understand gen 2 was from 2001 now (other sources say from 2002 though). So these guys do not know what are they selling?

It is arguable that the 996 gen 1 is the ugliest Porsche, so many were "facelifted" by the owners. A 2001 model is still a gen 1 with 3.4 litre.
However, please note that many owners modified their cars after crashs as gen 2 spare parts are as expensive as gen 1 spare parts, so a crash was a good opportunity for such an "upgrade".

all right. This makes sense. So I have first ammo for PPI then However, please note that many owners modified their cars after crashs as gen 2 spare parts are as expensive as gen 1 spare parts, so a crash was a good opportunity for such an "upgrade".

Not strictly true; the facelift was introduced for the model year 2002 and came into effect after the works holidays in autumn of 2001, i.e. there are facelift 3,6 liter cars which have been produced in 2001.However, as the car in the a.m. add is listed as 3,4 liter with 300 hp and was first registered in May 2001, it most probably is a first series with an updated front...

I'd say the car in the ad is definitely a 3.4 996.1 with a new front, as the interior and rear bumper are the older style. Certainly looks better, but I'd be worried it had been in a bump as it would have been pricey to replace wings, lights and bumper just to make it look like that.
