Me: I need some spark plugs
LS: Which vehicle?
Me: Land Rover
LS: Which engine?
Me: 3.9 V8
LS: O.K, we have those in stock, just the four was it?
Me: ...

Telephone canvasser: Hello sir, I understand you might be renewing your motor insurance soon?

Me: No.

TC: According to my records you renew in July.

Me: No, I renew in December, and BTW exactly what records are you referring to?

TC: Errr, its wots on my computer sir, anyhow would you like us to quote? We guarantee to save you money.

Me: (Bored) Go on then, it's a TVR 400se

TC: (much fumbling and shuffling noises in background, then silence for a few minutes) Could you repeat the car type please?

Me: TVR 400Se

TC: I don't see it listed under Triumph

Me: Thats cos its a TVR

TC: Oh yes, here we are TVR Taimar.

Me: Thats the make, but mines a later model - 400se

TC: Sorry sir, that car doesn't exist.

Me: Que?

TC: Not on our computer sir, doesn't exist. I think you must be mistaken. Are you sure it's not a Triumph?

Me :

Andy 400se

Well I got told a few days ago that a Group 12 car was "very high" for a 24 year old... do what?!?

"I'm sorry sir, but you're not a good risk..."

For the record, 6 years NCB, no claims, accidents or convictions and I'm not a good risk?

Picked up some Mobil 1 oil from Halfords the other day,

'you don't want to buy that sir...'

I'm sorry, but it's a shop that sells a range of oils, I chose the one I wanted to buy, and I know mr helpfull was only trying to save me a few bob but really, made me chuckle!!!
'look i'm sorry too, I really do want to buy it..'
However i wasn't told I didn't want to buy a curry last night...

Why is it that when I was 17, all the insurance companies told me I needed to be 21?
When I was 21, they all wanted me to be 25.
When I was 25, 30 was the age to be.
Now I'm >30 and insurance is still skyrocketing.

Great isn't it? I drive carefully, stack up my NCB and get quotes for a lukewarm hatch for when I'm 25... and it's still enough to finance a revolution.

Even my old man has problems, just try and insure a BMW Alpina B3 3.0 Switchtronic, you spend 5 minutes going through all the details, come to car, make & model, errrrrrrrr..... it's not on my screen sir, are sure it's not an M3?

Just try insuring a modified anything, but Mini's seem particularly bad. Most heavily modified or specials have insurers that know the car and are passed on from owner to owner. Its a handy process but you are never sure if you can get it cheaper elsewhere, but you need to be bothered to go through all the details.

It is bad enough having a LHD car. The barchetta was only LHD, but after I spend my time giving them details on me, my car, my history, they say "Sorry, we dont cover Left Hand Drive!" FFS, they knew that from the car!

That's why you should get an insurance Q car and invisibly max the hell out of it...
