Stupid bmw boot release
Discussion
stupid car.
The key is too sensitive and can open the boot.
Sadly it doesn't just pop it, it opens it all the way.
Thus as it is currently raining it is now very wet in there simply by putting my keys on the dining room table !
I've been concious about it for a while as it keeps happening so gently the place the keys down !!
BAAAAA and back to work, damn it.
Suppose you gotta laugh really.

Put the key in the lock and turn it half way - it disables the remote unlock.
The remote unlock or the boot release or both?
I don't want to have to put the key in every time, I only accidently press the boot release as it's the part of the key on the key ring that gets knocked somehow, same happens to my dads Z4, luckily his boot just opens slightly.
Really ?
Pigging dealers.
I reckon there must be a way.
There are lots of forums of people telling you how to unlock fuel computers and stuff, I've found loads of it useful, just things like this I can't find.
Also quite annoying, I even read the manual, now with manuals in the past, e.g. Vauxhall Astra, Ford Focus they've always told you how to change a setting or feature.
With the Golf I had and the Bmw it says IT IS POSSIBLE to do such and such....... with a stupid picture which means "ASK YOUR DEALER"
How utterly useless !

Yep, really!
Hope you're not having trouble with noisy rear shock absorbers - had that problem too. Dealer was good and it went in many times to get sorted, but along with the CD multi-stack going and the boot being open more often than shut (neighbours opposite popping over to tell me as well!)..I gave up after 7 months of ownership.
Edited to add - The dealer can set your remote to do all sorts of stuff on lock/unlock. See if they can disable the boot remote, I never asked.

Shame, noisey shocks ? sounds bad.
Well I lend it to white_van_man from time to time and usually it comes back with something not quite right.
Fuel economy has gone down from 46mpg to 38 since he had it lol.
That little devil.
(I'm only kidding) it's normally the seating position I can't get back !

Chris the dealer may be able to 'disable' the remote boot open function via the Car/Key Memory functions "Depending on the Model and spec of your car"
However if you read your handbook it should tell you how to manually lock the boot "ie 'Hotel Function'" this will stop the boot opening and unlocking via the key remote in the meantime.

Nah it just says only give the 'valet key' to the hotel, which doesn't unlock the boot or glove box.
Pants
It also doesn't disable the alarm (nor does the master key using the master key with the lock) so you have to get in the car quickly and turn the ignition on !

Stupid remote more like.
My E39 decided it would be a good idea to open all four windows the other night.
Parked outside, in the middle of a rainstorm - clever.
Four days to dry the seats out. Not a happy BMW customer.
20 minutes at the local dealers, and the remote won't open the windows any more.
Now all I need is all the other functions on the remote switching off, and I'll be happy.
For extra points, I'm guessing that after I've taken the remote for a swim, or otherwise got it wet, it will stop working and I won't be able to get into my car.
Hope the remote on newer BMW is better (i.e. does less).
And I thought it was me.....spare key in jeans pocket opens the boot of the Z4 as I get in the car very often. Can't seem to get it to deactivate following the above instructions, but that could well be me. Will see if I can get the spare deactivated by the dealer.
On the E46 Touring it can be set for the rear window or the tailgate, both of which can be opened by hand once the doors are unlocked, so little need for the remote really.
