Hi guys and girls

Does anybody out there have any idea how to get to the catalytic converter (or cat replacement pipe) on an S1 elise. I need to refit mine for it's up-comming MOT. The exhaust system does not seem to be covered in the sevice notes / manual (unless I'm looking in the wrong section).

I'm guessing you reach it from underneath after removing the rear defuser - is it tricky?

Any help much appreciated.

After seeing the title of the thread i was going to say call the fire brigade to get the poor thing down from the tree

I'm no mechanic but the cat would normally be bolted onto the end of the exhaust. You will need to put the car on ramps or jacks and remove the undertray to get at it.

Not got a CRP on mine but from what I have heard the bigest problem is removing the bolts which have a habit of fusing solid so you will need lots of WD40 and some muscle.

you need to remove the back under tray, then u will see the cat in front of the back box, on the right hand side of the cat is the down pipe on the left is the back box.
spray all 6 bolts wit wd40 and have a cupa! then undo all six nuts(3 each side of the cat) from memory they are 15mm? then get a large screwdriver and lever the right hand side (downpipe) The downpipe is on a fexi pipe and allows enough room to pull the replacement pipe out of the way (a little bit of jigery pokery!)
You will find a gaskit at both ends i think these will need replacing,if so www.eliseparts.co.uk will be able to help. This is easier with the car on a ramp but i managed to change my whole exhaust system
at ground level so it is posible if your skiny!
goo luck dude.

Definitley back the car onto some ramps, much easier.
Undo the rear undertray and away you go.
Did mine last year, not more than an hour to do unless you get a stuck bolt.

enjoy.......

Not much to add, apart from swopping out the old steel nuts and bolts for lovely stainless jobbies if not done already...should make things so much easier next time!

Cheers guys,

All top tips.

I think it will have to be ramps as I am running LSS. I am skinny, but not that skinny!

Also, on the subject of stainless bolts - I've heard mixed opinions. Some people say stay with mild steel as stainless fuses when it gets hot?

Stainless with loads of copperslip should be ok right?

Any thoughts on that one?
