A1(M) to be widened!!

Definitely good news in the long run but I guess that section will be even worse than it usually is for the next ?? months while the work is undergoing.
I rarely use that section any more (during working hours anyway) so hopefully it won't affect me too much but it may be 'hell' for others for a while

I never understood why they changed the filter lane layout where it narrow, with the fast lane filtering into the middle lane, that has caused so may accidents.
I welcome it becoming 3 lanes all the way though.......... I presume by using the hard shoulder this will only be at certain times of the day ?

If this is anything like what they have done on the M1 north of Luton it seems pretty pointless.
95% of the time the hard shoulder won't be open, 80% of the time, and often there is little congestion, they reduce the speed limit (as these seem to variable speed limit) and there are lots of cameras.
when the hard shoulder is open, nobody uses it apart from the occasional HGV. Lane discipline is so bad anyway, and then add the unknown factor of crossing into what is normally the hard shoulder that the vast majority of people stay out.
Admittedly I don't travel that particular stretch at rush hour when it may be of use, but the rest of the time.......mmmmmeeeehhhh

A waste of time, as said all it will be is using the hard shoulder, which I totally disagree with anyway. I wouldn't mind I thought they bought a lot of the properties years ago up through Oaklands to do a proper job only to re market them when it all got cancelled (I looked at one).
