High Quality bib shorts

Rather than hijack the Rapha head-arse interface thread i thought id start a new one.

Im currently using Gore Power 2.0 bib shorts. They are very comfortable on long rides 50-60+ miles. so no complaints there. furthest ive been in them in 110 miles and still no probs. They fit very well too.


Hoever the quality of them doesn't live up to the price. Im on the 3rd pair. stitching coming undone etc. (smooth saddle so its not that) I look after them and make sure i dont stick them in the wash with stuff that might destory them either. In this respect I expect far more from shorts at the price point.

I've baulked at Rapha and Assos due to price but....do you get what you pay for? Shorts are bloody important clearly, I want to get some more but not Gore based on my experience. Everyone has been suprised ive had problems with them but there you go.....

You read the Rapha thread so clearly I'm going to say yes they're worth the money; every now and then though a 20% code is available which takes them from £160 to £128 which may make it a little more palatable.

I always justify stuff like this; let's say I'll spend £100 on a pair, but never be quite happy. In 1yr will I miss that £60? No. But I'll have a good quality pair of shorts though

Sorry to hijack, but I was thinking of a similar thread, but struggle in regards to padding

My pads seem to wear out quite quick and been getting some discomfort down there. I have checked my saddle fit and that is ok, but am after a pair of shorts with decent padding that will last at least a year, any suggestions?

The general quality of the Rapha shorts is great but it's the chamois that does it for me. They use a Cytech chamois and it's by far the most comfortable I've tried on rides of 3 hours or more. I'm wearing my Castelli Nanoflex bibs at the moment, because it's wet and windy, but I'm missing the comfort of that Cytech chamois.

FWIW, there are other brands who also use that chamois at a cheaper price than Rapha, but I can't remember which now.

I'm as tight as a gnat's chuff, but even I wear Castelli bibs on a long ride. Otherwise it's DHB which are fine except the white graphics wear off.

Got the S7 Assos shorts, for any long distance stuff I wouldn't wear anything else,and I've tried quite a few different shorts.

I have a pair of those and after two years they are falling apart and the pad has been reduced to nothing. Logos wore off a long time ago too. I can't complain though as they have done a decent amount of mile and they were only £25

I really like Castelli shorts and I think the kiss3 pad is the comfiest thing I have ever had between my legs for any prolonged period. The only problem is the sizing and unless you are a tiny Italian with a preference for EPO, you are in the XL/XXLs....

I have a pair of sportful bibtights that I picked up half price from Halfords about a year ago. Since then they have been used for almost 2 cyclocross seasons and commuting in some terrible weather along with a couple of longer rides (50-60 miles) they are still holding up very well after being washed at least once a week apart from the warmest part of the summer and I fully expect them to be fine in another years time, they are almost as good as they were when I got them!!

I've got an old pair of Giordana bibs that have been great, I've done loads of five hours and over rides in them and two Three Peaks cyclocross races, still looking good.

Morvelo bibs are worth a try, I find them more comfortable than my Assos ones.
I recently bought a pair of Castelli bibs from Castelli Cafe as they were in the sale and so far they've been pretty comfortable but I've not been out for a long 4h+ ride in them yet.

I recently bought some Lusso Pro Gel bib shorts seem good quality, the fit is good and the pad is good quality too.
