Does anyone know what the chances are of a claim against the council for a chipped windscreen at an accident site?

Was on the way in to the office this morning driving up the A14 and was hit by a stone (windscreen) which has left a fairly large crack directly in my view!. I am insured and will probably have to get the screen replaced, However, This is the second time in two months I will have to do this.... The stone(s) were all over the road, including part of a car bumper after what seems to have been the remains of an accident, Arent the police supposed to clear all debry (including a sweep of the glass and stones etc) from the road surface following incidents like these, do I have a claim agains anyone for this?

Thanks!

Diffucult because hard to prove. however if you can prove the stone came from the council work (witness?) they'll definitely pay up. I had my car sprayed with bitumen whilst passing roadworks and received full compensation without hesitation.

I presume the stones were on the road as a result of the accident, not the result of council workmen? If so I would say very little chance the council will pay up, however you could try tracking down the accident and making a claim against the driver at fault.
