New Range Rover - London Taxi
Discussion
Followed one round the MOD testing ground at Aldershot a few weeks back and boy can it cope with rough terrain. I was in a Pinzgauer 6x6 and the Range Rover could go pretty much anywhere we could, so if you're going off road (which most don't) then it's the business. On road - no idea but it gets very good press. Lots of £...

All,
Been looking at the New Range Rover, Are they any good anymore?
My brother's got a Defender and I read in one of his independent 'Landrover' magazines that they pitted a new RR against a Defender in extreme offroad conditions and the RR was AS GOOD! Pretty impressive for a luxury 4X4. Shame most people who buy (£50k) it will never explore its potential.
However, it does look very much like an overgrown London Taxi, which is unfortunate.

Quite simply loads better than the old Rangies on the road and apparantly just as good off road.
I've borrwed the (now 'old') 2.5 diesel Rangie for the last few days, and it's a pretty good drive on road, although you really can't rush it (but then that's not the point is it?).
Are the new 3.0 diesels that much better then?
I have test driven one (I was honest and told the salesman that I wasn't in the market for it, but he thought he could sell me a replacement discovery).
they are beautifully equipped and drive well, although feel enormous.
Off road they are astonishing. Yes, the Landrover magazine says that they have almost the same capabilities as a Defender. It is all down to the tractions control and electronics.
Shame that for most of them, off road = on the kerb.
FYI a pinzgauer is an offroad vehicle with six wheels, a very strange machine which uses diff locks instead of ax;e articulation to maintain grip. the come in lots of dieerent sizes.

I have an admission:
I have been hankering after a RR from some time now, years and years in fact and this incarnation I love. It has something, like Bentleys, it almost sits on top of the road (If you know what I mean) like its too good for it.
I love the Chim, and I love TVR's but come upgrade time the more I see these the more and more I want one, perhaps its being almost 30 thats doing it to me!!
Matt.

What's this then?...a tank?
Not quite, as Yum says they come in differnt sizes (4x4 and 6x6) and bodies. If you click on the link yum suggests below and go to the video gallery, watch the clip of the waterproofed vehicle and you'll see what they can do.
As used by many defence forces around the world, and built in Guildford...

Yes it almost feels quite speedy - I wasn't thrashing it much and I got the feeling if I did it wouldn't go much quicker but it was still fairly respectable for that sort of thing.

I work in the earthmoving industry (hence 'DIGGA') and you wouldn't beleive the state of some of our customers cars, Range Rovers included, that visit. Never mind being used off road, a lot of the look like they've served as temporary dump trucks, or fitters vans.

You're not alone, although I'd struggle to part with the Griff', so I'll just have to save up until I can afford to run the TVR and a new Range Rover (like that's not going to be expensive).

I have to say that of all the cars I do think that a new RR and any convertible TVR would make wonderful stablemates. Cant put my finger on why, but think it would just work. Of course one would need the big garage and gravel driveway to complete the ensemble but as I'm dreaming anyway...
