Disc and rim brake wheels?

Can someone clear something up for me - if I order some wheels with disc compatible hubs can I also use them on a rim brake bike if the rims are compatible? I'm wondering if the spoke pattern is different to cope with differing forces?

yes. As you say if the rims have a braking surface and the hubs have disc mounts, there is no problem although you may need to remove the disc to stop it fouling on the fork of the rim brake bike?

Beware that disc hubs may be slightly wider thanks to their MTB origins: rear hubs may be 135mm for discs/MTBs, whilst non-disc/road stuff is 130mm. The fronts may also be different, though I can't recall the numbers.
