So I am primarily a mountain biker but also ride on road currently I have 4 bikes:-

Downhill bike sold as "Free Ride" but isn't its definitely a DH bike with 7" travel at both ends & weighs as much as a house,
Ti hard tail with 5" fork for general trail centre stuff,
Carbon hard tail with a 4" fork for XC stuff
Mud guarded Ribble Audax aluminium for all round road riding.

I have started to think an Enduro / AM style modern 5" travel 650b MTB would make a good addition and would a nice light carbon summer road bike, then I started thinking a single speed would be good for fitness as well. Seven potential bikes seems excessive?

How many is the average owned on here - what do people "manage" with?

Hybrid 700c commuter - Dawes Discovery 401. Front shocks, Discs, weighs a ton (15.5kg!)
Roadie Hack - FORT Aero frame with a bunch of Shimano 8spd rubbish (just under 10kg)
Road Best. - Merckx Carbon Roadie, 10sp Campy. 8kg ish.

Posh Summer Road Bike - Something full carbon, frame wheels, etc, no lights, no saddle bag, couple of bottle holders and an outfront garmin mount, want to get a Di2 equipped bike for this role in the sales!

9. Giant Anthem X...very tired.

They all get used, Retro Raleigh the least & the Foil & Nerve the most but when the sun is shining I use the Condor as it's the best bike I've ridden. CAAD X, Plasma & Scale get used for racing duties when the mood takes me & the Anthem X is very tired but gets used through winter for night MTB rides. I've got all my bases covered I reckon & I doubt I'll buy another road bike again, I'll just keep having the Condor re painted if it starts to look rough & keep it for years.

A chap I know has over 80 bikes in his collection from some very rare vintage steelies, to modern carbon - and just about everything in-between, 98% are roadies.

I took his claim with a bit of a pinch of salt until I popped over for a cuppa tea a few months ago and he showed me the collection, which is kept in 3 double garages!
