Water temp warning light flashing
Discussion
...Just left Ikea 24degC outside temp, and on the motorway, hit redline a couple of times and the water temp light started flashing, temp sat between 80 and the next mark, hmm manual says low water on engine fan not working, anyone had this before, 1999 996 C2 coupe. Cheers,
PS not checked water level as it's dark, engine fan didn't seem to be running tho' does it run all the time?

i know the answer to this as I know the main technical man at Porsche GB.
it is a design flaw with the original 996 that the coolant expansion tank is too small, when you give the car a caining it causes a vapour lock which then flashes the light.
apart form it being annoying it is supposedly something to ignore...unless you kick of with your dealer and tell them to contact PCGB as it is a known fault to the tech department.
unfortunately I took my last 911 back to 2 dealers neither of whom knew this and neither could fix it, apart from suggesting topping up the coolant.
I also thought it was the engine fan, but take it from me it is the above...
