Replacing door / window rubber seal
Discussion
The driver door to window rubber seal on my Chimaera is knack'd. Seems to be a soft material which has cracked and rubbed away with the up / down movement of the window.
I've now got a replacement rubber. Any advice on fitting would be appreciated ie door panel removal, how to remove the glass etc.
Thanks
Here's how to do it, if it's not too late.
Don't eat or lift anything for 2 months so that your forearms shrink
- you need to get through the speaker hole up to your elbow (best angle is to start at 2 o'clock until up to elbow then move arm down).
You need a 10mm ring spanner to undo the nuts securing the door panel. There is one to the left of the speaker, one to the right, one roughly in the center near the cigarette lighter and one over to the right. Dont drop the nuts because they fall into the bottom of the door and they are a bitch to get back out.
I would advise taking out the glass for best access otherwise you may as well not remove the door inserts. There are two bolts securing it to a plate attached to a runner. There is a spacer between the screw heads and nut which drops to the bottom of the door, unless you know its there. Again, 10mm ring spanner plus grips to hold the nut and prevent spinning.
Good time to grease window runners and polish any dull ally that you can't normally reach.
When you remove the old rubber you will find that it was stuck down with that plastic glue stuff (the one that is heated up in a glue gun). I advise removing all traces of this otherwise when you stick the new rubber down it is slightly more proud than before and the window rips it off again.
Refit is reverse of removal. Make sure that the door inserts aren't situated too far to the right otherwise they rub on the rubber door stripping and prevent proper door closure.
Good luck!
