Never intended to post anything on this, but boredom has dictated otherwise.
I bought this almost a year ago after owning 3 RS Clios and a Fabia vRS. It seemed the next logical step, and it hasn't disappointed.
Anyway...
The day after I picked it up from Stourbridge, I drove from Doncaster to Scarborough then onto Malton for the Big Breakfast meet, and plonked it next to my best mate's LY R26.

Not much followed in the next few months apart from a major service, 4 new tyres and a fair bit of cleaning to bring it up to what I'm used to, and fitted my private plate.
I was enjoying it too much to do much else, but once I realised how much I could get H&R parts for, it was rude not too. Ended up paying £90 for some new springs, £49 for some spacers and £29 for some braided lines. Bargain.
Got them all fitted along with an oil change and basic check up by a mate, all was good.

Then fitted some R26.R fog blanks, as I'm not really a fan of fogs.

Future plans to map it, but I'm in no rush as I'm awaiting an intercooler and other bits being made for me.

I'd only ever allow Paul to map my car, they're not far from me anyway. The turbo whistle is quite pronounced on mine!
Looks great in red. I really miss mine, had a black one when they came out and I didn't keep it long enough. Replaced a Clio trophy that I loved, but wanted a bit more poke. The r26 was excellent but just wasn't as chuckable as the Trophy. Reckon I'd have appreciated a lot more if I'd had it after anything else!
They still look very fresh to me. I'd forgotten about the turbo whistle!

I've had a Trophy too but sold it for the vRS which I didn't get on with, and replaced that with a 182 and it just wasn't the same. The Trophy remains the best car I've owned, easily.They still look very fresh to me. I'd forgotten about the turbo whistle!

As others have said they have aged very well
It's not mega rare, as they did 120 in red as opposed to circa 300 in Liquid Yellow.As others have said they have aged very well

GTi was dull in my opinion, quick but dull. JCW Mini was the other option for me, but went Megane as they were the cheaper fix should go wrong having a friend who owns a breakers yard, but I now work for a Mini Specialist and get to see JCWs all the time but still an option for the future, maybe.Feirny said:

It's the one car I still really miss. Just a perfect package. I used to love the fact that it three wheeled round corners and made you look like a lunatic when the car was barely breaking a sweat. Never driven a car that instilled such confidence and could be drive so hard within reasonable speeds. Sorry, off topic! Enjoy the R26, they're seriously quick a to b cars.

They are great handling cars, and when mapped go really really well., go towards the R26 (with LSD) as mine 'A Cup' struggles without one if used on the track.Common issues (and issues I have had with mine) - so you can compare against the other cars. (2 year and 30k)?
Lower hubs go, this is a common one, Renault want something like £1500 to fix, where as a new set of bearing will cost £50 and getting someone to fix will cost about £100-200.
Radiator leaking (not a question of if, but when), new Rad was £80, and fitted it myself.
Handbrake cable gets stuck. - new cables at £10 each.
Engine mounts wear, like all Renault.
Wrrring noise, knackered half shaft bearing - £80 to fix (which hubs were off)
Coolant leak, turbo coolant pipe leaking, £10 special order + £80 to fit. (at Renault).
Sticky when warm gearchange (not self centering) design issue, can be fixed cheaply, not worried me at all.
Broken top mount (suspension), bearing failed - £50 + £60 fitting.
Also got the belts changes by Fred at BTM when i got the car.
Upgrades you can get done (cheapo)
Airbox hack - opens the air box - more noise etc..
Cooksport springs £180 - makes the car look much better.
Brembo disks + Frodo Pads - much better stopping.
RsTuner (do it yourself) remap to about 250-265 for under £300, changes the car completely.
or get it done at RS-TUNING in leeds on the rollers, cost more, but bespoke map.

I know this is from an old post but could you enlighten me on the easy fix for my gears when the gear box warms up please? I live in NZ and nobody has a clue about working on renaults. My R26 has had a new R26r clutch n lighten flywheel. New master and slave cylinder and tried a few different gear oils with no joy. It seems to be getting more and notchy and sticky and won't even go into gear... this only happens when at a stand still but as soon as the Meg starts moving the gear changes are fine. Rather frustrating!!

High points in my car ownership so far have been a Clio 197 and a 306 gti6. This feels like an almost natural progression that I missed due to having kids. It’s an itch that needs to be scratched.
They’re likely to be getting a bit long in the tooth now though. Are they still a good prospect?

Well I sold this for an Elise, and a few cars since I’m back in another R26 haha. They’re brilliant.
