Steve Sutcliffe in Autocar seems "quite pleased" with the Cayman GTS! biggrin

I read it before it went off line. Things I remember it mentioning are that it was quicker than the Cayman R (the model that deleted the air con and interior door handles etc. to save weight)and less crashy than the Boxster GTS poor surfaces. He gave it 5 stars out of 5.

Yeah, that's Saunders.

Sutcliffe did do a video review of it though, in which he damn near had a crisis: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fxXrDIevmlY

Mine arrived on US shores on Monday, and at the dealer yesterday afternoon. I get to take delivery on the 25th!

Apologies I don't know what happened to the link. The original link was to Sutcliffe's Autocar video in which he was almost orgasmic in his praise.
He was driving the manual with passive suspension and the CC brakes. Really raved about the ride, handling and the brakes. Particularly liked the steering and ended by saying this was the car he would have if he could only have one car in his life. I will see if I can get the link back.
EDITED to say the link to the video with Sutcliffe is at the bottom of the article. Worth a view.

Anyone other than a Porschephile would think he'd lost the plot in the youtube video.

The 981 is an amazing car in its own right but I'm dont see it as an improvement in terms of fun, though I've not heard any journalist agree with that sentiment.

Not until the next model comes along and in 10 years time they will all be raving about previous models as no longer on the payroll
The 981.2 next year will be the better car
997gt3 v996gt3rs anyone?

There may be some truth in that statement.

I'm just bitter that I feel I've reached the top as it were with my first Porsche (987.2, manual of course). It makes me sad to think that the future is uncertain, thankfully theres a few older models to keep me occupied!

At 55k it seems a bit of a bargain to me. The gts models always seem to get nicely specced although the one in that vid did have ceramics .

Not this time mate - the 981.2 will have a turbo engine

After 22k miles in a Spyder, I have done 6k miles in my 981 Cayman S, standard suspension and 20" wheels.

I'm not sure why Sutcliffe is so excited to be honest. I refuse to believe the GTS is completely different to my car, you'd have to be on crack to suggest that steering/ brake pedal feel is better than the 987.2.

Overall though , are you happy with the change to the 981?

Well I am enthused enough to test drive one.

Re: pedal feel, got to be one with pccb then, I would imagine they are servoed up differently to steels on the 981 as car magazine also raved a about the brakes.

Mine has steel brakes and they are noticeably over servoed compared to my previous Porsches. You do get used to them though.

Overall I am happy with the change albeit in the context that my circumstances changed earlier in the year and I wanted a car capable of 150 mile motorway journeys on a regular basis.

981 Cayman S PDK is perhaps obviously a far better all rounder than a Spyder. On a sunny day and an empty interesting road, the Spyder is in a different league for enjoyment.

I think I'd get use to the brake pedal feel on a PDK car, but with a manual it may make heal and toeing a bit difficult.

I'd love one. Not sure I would be able to curb my enthusiasm enough though on the road. It's just too bloody quick to thrash.

He seemed pleased that his car had the no cost option Sports Suspension over the standard PASM........whats the general consensus on this? Seems odd to swap out a cost option of a car??

I would want the extra drop of the SS but is the PASM the better choice for a car that would never see the track??

How is the auto blip feature and is it any good?

Sounds like a fair set of circumstances, in fact similar to my own. A 981 would be the nicer 'cruiser' but for everything else my current Cayman blows my socks off.

I thought the ride on the standard car with 20s was fine, anything else is probably superfluous.
