How's this as a general use bike?

Sorry if there's a million which bike should I buy threads already. I've had a super basic mountain bike for years that I want to upgrade I'm thinking to something lighter, mainly for road use (but maybe occasional canal path, or grass). Budget about £500 max.
Being a lazy bd and not intending to get heavily into this cycling malarkey I've gone for the default option and taken a wander into Halfrauds today.
Does this sound like a reasonable deal?

Love mine, didn't pay that much for it though. Think they must have had a special offer on.

There's a similar one about £100 cheaper (without disc brakes and a few other differences) which maybe would do me better, I would rather spend less if no great gain.

I just checked I got £60 off mine which I used for the 3 year warranty. The disc brakes are great compared to a 24 year old bike I've just restored, mind you that's not saying much.
