Cannondale CAAD10

Been given the go ahead to get a road bike by Mrs Lufbramatt. Budget was around the £1k mark but as ever, things have crept. Don't really fancy a generic carbon framed bike, not keen on the looks so would prefer a decent alu or steel frame.

The CAAD10 caught my eye, lots of great reviews online of the frame. I'd be looking at the 105 spec model. Can't seem to find anywhere with one in stock in my size though (58cm). However it would appear that the price has dropped for the 2015 bike, which has 11 speed 105, from £1500 to £1300. Worth waiting a few weeks for the new years bikes to ship?

Anyone have any experience of the CAAD10, or offer any thoughts on alternatives? I raelly like the look of the steel framed Genesis offering but the spec seems a bit low on them.

Canyon and Rose are making some very nice alloy bikes. Rose Xeon CSL 3000 is in budget with a full Ultegra build and Ksyrium Equipes, claimed weight 7.2kg! Whether the frame is as good as the CAAD10 I don't know, but they seem to get good reviews.

Interesting, hadn't heard of Rose, will check them out.... the aluminium Xeon RS-3000 in shiny black/red looks stunning, you may have changed my mind here Full ultegra and decent wheels.

Have had a look at the Canyons, one of my mates got slightly messed around with a full suspension Canyon so am a bit wary of them.

I've had mine for a couple of years now and love it It will always be so much better than I am so will hopefully never find a reason to have to upgrade it.

Got a CAD10 a few months ago - due to work have only used it outside a few times, but lots inside

I've been riding it's predecessor (CAAD9) for over 5 years now. Still a wonderful bike to ride and I'm struggle to find anything that could replace it without spending a lot more money.

Great choice! I bought my CAAD10-3 (Ultegra) in November last year from www.thebikeshop.de.



They had the bike in stock (almost the same frame as Garys above) advertised at a lower price then I could buy it in England.
I then e-mailed them and they gave me an even better price which sealed the deal. Next I asked if they could upgrade the wheels so they upgraded it to Ksyrium Elite S wheels from the standard Aksiums for a very good price.
The transaction was smooth, their English over e-mail was brilliant and although a small section of bar tape had rubbed while in transit they arranged for two more rolls of Cannondale bar tape to be sent which arrived a couple of days later. I was a little apprehensive at first so bought it on Credit Card but needn't have been.

Looks like they already have the 2015's in stock too.

I've had my '14 CAAD10 3 Ultegra since December, from a local shop which price-matched biker-boarder.de so picked it up just under £1500 (in France).

It has been fantastic, never let me down - over 4000kms this year including a race season, the Marmotte, l'Etape, Ride London.

I dallied with 25c tyres for a short while to take a little bit of harshness out for the Marmotte but there is almost no clearance between the rear brake caliper and the tyre so any debris can get stuck and rub (as I found out at the worst time during a race - pebble jamed in there rubbing against tyre for 10kms, like riding with the brakes on).

I am tempted to go for a CAADX or CAAD10 disc at some point. Or maybe a SuperSix which has the same geometry. But the bike, the frame, and the value is excellent.

Thanks for the comments guy. thebikeshop.de has next year's model for <£1200 which is a great price. I'm torn between this and the Rose Xeon RS-3000 mentioned above which comes with Ultegra and Ksyriums for £1270, and arguably looks nicer with the internally routed cables. Have a feeling the Cannondale frame might be slightly better though.

Visited Evans in maidstone this morning and put a deposit on a CAAD8 with a carbon fork and shimano 105 which they had reduced from £1100 to £850. Got measured up and tried a few different sizes and went with the 58, the guy down there was really helpful and knowledgable. They had a super six evo and a CAAD10 but looking at them I really couldn't justify the extra couple of hundred quid- so actually ended up under budget! Picking it up next weekend, can't wait :-)

The gulf blue one?. I bought one 2 months ago from Evans for £930 and am very happy with it more so than the DI2 canyon aeroad I had before.

A riding buddy of mine has a CAAD10 and loves it, also has no issue at all spinning along in the middle of a group of carbon bikes and he is no 'go-lightly'!

IIRC I remember reading that Cannondale continued to invest very heavily in the development of their Alu frames while the rest of the industry diverted R & D budgets into carbon frames, so Cannondale frames continued to develop while the majority of other manufacturers stuck with what they had.

I was going to suggest the Felt F series as an alternative but as you have done the deed all that is left is to wish you many happy miles on your new wheels!!

The canyon wasn't as comfortable which is to expected I suppose as it has more aggressive geo but the cannondale seems smoother on the road and doesn't rattle my teeth as much.

Yep. Not that keen on the white saddle + bar tape but easy to change that sort of stuff in due course. I don't think I've ever lasted more than a few weeks on the cheap nasty saddles that come fitted to new bikes so am expecting to change that anyway. Prefer buying stuff like this from a shop I can easily visit. The equivalent Rose (SL-2000) works out about the same price once you add in postage and packaging so thought I'd stay local. They had a Supersix Evo 105 for £1200 which looked really nice but for me at the moment I don't think the extra £350 would be worth it.

I see you can now get a Caad 10 Ultegra for £1700 or the Force Racing version with SRAM 22 for £1800, which is the better group set?
