Diesel Gallardo!!!?
Discussion
In this week's Autocar.
Unless the torque increase is worth it... then whats the point? Fuel economy... in a supercar?

Lamborghini could be on the verge of a revolutionary supercar step. The Italian firm is testing a diesel Gallardo, with power coming from the 5.0litre 309bhp V10 VW engine

It won't be economic. My most un-economical car to date was a diesel (straight-6 4.0 Landcrusier weighing 2.7 tons when empty!).
I'd like to see the outcome. If I had loads of money to tinker with such experiments I'd give it a go.
So perhaps the point is just a bit of fun. Or perhaps its a publicity thing.
With a bit more development (more interesting end figures) I see no reason why it couldnt be amazing.
Was quite a fan of the Taurus Sports Diesel at Lemans last year - seemed to go well enough, just had a bit too much torque for the drivetrain. excellent stuff
Just give it time, it'll happen eventually.

A Lambo with a rev limiter operating at a whopping 4000 revs, now that would be fun ... NOT.
