Ghibli 2.0 1994 Opinions, please?
Discussion
What do you think of these cars. I have heard a lot of horror stories about the Bi-turbo and Ghibli, but that 2.0l V6 and 306Bhp... There is a LHD drive one in Exchange and Mart for sale at £6000 on a M-plate 1995 with 110,000km and full history from Bill McGrath. Apparently the only fault is a warning light on the self leveling suspension... Shall I walk away or is this a good bargain? It would make a nice change from the Teutonic machinery in my garage. Thanks in advance
I, for one, think they're great looking cars. Not classic styling, but certainly chunky. However, cheap to buy it may be, but you'd better put a big chunk aside for maintaining it.
The Bill M history is a good sign though.
Not sure I'd take it over your 928 though. The Masser may have more "character" than the German cars, but you'll probably need reminding of that every time something goes wrong!
Blimmin' tempting though, and you never know, this one may be as good as gold.

Actually, that looks too cheap. Autotrader show a '98 model for £18k
I think I'd get an expert to check it over.
There's also a 1970 Ghibli 4.9SS RHD (now that one really is a beaut) in Autotrader. Superb condition, ex Maserati UK car - just under £30k. That's a bargain for a true Daytona competitor

Thanks for the replies so far...
The 928 is staying regardless of whether I buy a Ghibli or not... Give up on the soundtrack of a 4.7L Porsche V8... Naah...
As with regards to the Ghibli being cheap
1. LHD is difficult to sell as it is. With a specialist car, which doesn't command a huge following and costs an arm and a leg it is even more difficult.
2. UK second hand market is depressed at present...
Keep them coming...
Thanks

I have not found one worth parting with money for yet - but what i have found is how damned expensive they are to fix, like a headlight at £420, silencer at £600 etc. etc. be prepared to dig deep into your pockets to keep it on the road. The electronic suspension is expensive with a capital E to fix. FYI there is another 2.0l LHD on eBay at the moment (probably the same car). There are VERY few RHD ones in the country and they do seem to suffer from things like rust more than most - dont be surprised to find rusty holes on a 94/95 car - seriously! Service history is vital and be prepared for a large bill if it is due cambelts (and chains) at the next service.
Alternatively look at it as the cheapest supercar you will probably ever see and have some fun with it ;-)

Thanks, the ebay one is not the same car... The whole cost thing is beginning to put me off a bit... Moreover, the more I read about the Maserati, the more I am getting a feeling that the Porsche 928 is as good as the Italian, if not better as a GT. Performance wise the Pork is there...
The Porsche 928 is the cheapest supercar you will see - I got 1.7 units out of mine on the M11 last night...
Hi, I have a 94 Ghibli, all that's been said is mostly true. In the early days it did cost me a bit but now the monies spent it's been fine, good fun a bit scary in the wet, makes a great noise, turns heads but not as much as I'd expected. Don't enjoy it as much the 3200, if you want one I'd consider selling it. If you want to know more about running etc drop me a note, cheers
