BIG trailies,had one ?
Discussion
Looking into getting an africa twin, infact going to buy one today,I think.Has anyone had an africa twin / tenere etc after having a road bike that can share there opinions on difference in riding experience between trail / road race bikes. My last bike (zx9r) was giving me grief across the back of the neck / wrists,it was starting to be a thought taking it out any longer than 30 mins, and I assume the big trail bike scenario will cure this, but at how much of a cost of losing excitement !
I once rode an Africa Twin (owned by JVaughan on here actually) and rather enjoyed it. It was a very different experience to riding my Bandit 600. Primarily the lack of wind was fantastic (big screen on the Africa Twin) but the bike didn't feel all that fast and, being a twin, the engine felt a little lumpy - I was used to smooth, high revving acceleration.
Different bikes but I really enjoyed it. The bars moving without the screen freaked me out to start with but it was fun.

dugless .. this is a common misconception that big trailies arent fun.... there are a number of big trailie bike owners that came from sports bikes. ok, they are not scorchingly fast, but they are fun in other ways... I have an 03 Africa Twin... its awsome.. commuting in traffic is great, you actually have the same visibility as vans in traffic, sports bikers often tuck in behind me as i filter cos I can be seen by drivers. When I take the bike home to Wales to visit my parents, it is excellent for welsh roads...

I liked the Triumph Tiger so much I bought the company, I wish. But I do own two of them (one carb'd, one efi'd) and run the list at www.tigerlist.org/
This and other types of trailies are extremley versatile and practical, give good vision in traffic, are great for long distance, fun on any surface and at any speed.
Sportsbikes are fun too, but not comfortable for a tall bod like m'sel...
