Only switch ASR off when your in a big wet car park.
(Your have to hold the button for about 5 seconds and a big red warning sign appears on the dash) Nuff said

i bought a year old 4200 and after five days discovered exactly the same. In my unfortunate story, however, in sports mode the asr did tit-all as I helicoptered through a fifteen foot hedge. It has taken 3 months and 18k to have it back on the road. I now drive like a old woman.

asr is reduced in sport mode. I've only ever turned it off about twice, once at vmax in the wet, loadsafun if there is enough room to slide about.

ASR keeps me safe but at the end of the day you can't get past the laws of physics. Had the back end out a few times but never lost it. You could really do with taking it to the race track or VMax and get a feel for it. Then you'll start driving like a Bloke again.

Glad it was just your car that got dented

390bhp thru the rear end in the wet is a recipe for "Fun", also the rear end of the 32/42 is not brilliantly set up - something that has been put right in the Gransport apparently

i would say never switch off the asr (unless on a track), and dont even use sport mode in the wet. Mind you my 3200 was safer than the ghibli i had - now that wanted to go randomly sideways in the dry too!

Yep Andy, been there with both of them and fully agree.

The most interesting ride and the most surprising though was some years back when in a moment of insanity I decided to "excercise" my 365 boxer on hard packed snow on very quiet roads. 360bhp in 1250kgs just had to be fun and it was - Very very controllable with instant sideways on (and off) demand.

The 3200 is always going to be an animal on less than dry roads in Sport mode simply because of the hyper light throttle and the uncertain "computer controlled" power delivery which would normally be rather sudden on a turbo anyway. Turning the ASR off outside a dry track is a most definite no no.

how fast have you guys taken your 3200gt (on track of course) without loosing confidence in the cars handling ability ?

Pah, ASR this......ASR that. You don't know you're born

My 300ZX may not be quite as powerful as your Masser's (only 280bhp), but the ONLY traction control system is my right boot

Big turbo power, an auto gearbox and rear drive can be a handful even at lowish speeds in the wet.

I was (and stop laughing at the back) a Capri boy in my younger days. Those cars taught me a fair bit about rear wheel drive

My only advice would be to drive like ya mum when it's slippy out there

Ditto. Vmax was a great learning experience - plenty of chance to turn ASR off and explore the limits on the twisty bits and get sideways. It built my confidence up considerably, then the rain came down and I had a BIG spin. Even in a safe environment it was a bit of a heart stopper. Now I don't think I would ever switch it off on the road as I came to the conclusion that when a 3200 really lets go it does it big time!

I remember a road test on the 3200GT a few years ago. It recommended you padlock the car in the garage on a rainy day!

Went for a rass a few days ago in the wet. 80ish and the wheels where still spinning (In a streight line). The throttle is lite and the turbo's need getting used to. The one thing i have noticed is that the car tends to realy cling to the ground at speed (Aerodynamics eh). That's when the quick turn in is very usefull. Just remember, Slow in quick out and belt it on the streights. Keep the turbo on in the corners (3000 revs'ish). Your better with it on then it won't supprise you mid corner. (Sorry if you know this already)

Totally brillient car, tame when tootling and mad as a hatter when you put your foot down. BRILLIENT

Hope I'm not tempting fate here, but I drive mine whatever the weather.

Lost it a little bit on Tues morning when I accelerated hard onto a dual carriageway from the slip road - it went diagonally for a short time. The road was a bit damp and greasy from mist, rather than rain.

Mine's auto and if I floor the pedal at 70mph the ASR always kicks in.
