Hi all

Mentioned this as part of a wider thread so may have been missed by readers.

My 981s has a really annoying buzzing squeak with the roof down over the drivers shoulder. It is almost constant when the car is moving. I'm 99% sure it is the sprung flap that goes up when the roof closes. If you press it it makes the same noise.

Anyone else have this ? The passenger side doesn't do it.

If you do .. Did you manage to find anyway of stopping it ?

Reluctant to use WD40 or Silicon spray for fear of it staining the red plastic, carpet or leather.

Cheers

Paul

Has no one else experienced this issue.

Really keen to have some reinforcing tales to take to the OPC with ideas on what may have been done to resolve.

Paul.

I'm sorry everyone ... does anyone have a 981 Boxster ?

The squeak / buzz from the lifting flaps is doing my head in and I need to know if it is common. If any of you have experienced it or something similar, let me know what, if anything you've done about it.

Paul.

Is the OPC unable to fix it or refusing to fix it?

Thanks for replying.

Only had car for month and 90 miles from OPC I purchased from. I'm hoping someone can tell what to try without taking it in. If I'm told it needs going in, it would at least be good to know it's an issue others have experienced and resolved.

I have a 981 Boxster and haven't heard any sort of significant noise from the roof flap. I've had the passenger side flap make a slight rubbing noise when the roof is up, but a quick "waggle" sorts it out. Zero noise (from the flap) when the roof is down however. The lack of response to the thread would suggest that it isn't a common complaint either. I'd take it up with your OPC if it's giving you grief that much

I'd also be inclined to do what you don't want to which is give it blast with some WD40, shielding the surrounding area with a paper towel / cloth - I reckon that's what the OPC will try first in any case smile

I have exactly this, but when the roof is in the "up" position. OPC have had the car twice but claim they can't find the noise. Sometimes I can make it stop temporarily by putting the roof down and then up again - but the noise always returns.

How can you hear the flap when it's down??

Thanks guys

Went to Reading OPC yesterday and they are going to have it in next week.

When the roof is down the flaps are down and the inside edge appears to run against the bottom of the drivers roll over arch causing the buzz / squeak.

Plastic against plastic .. I guess it's inevitable that on the edges of tolerance re size and position this sort of thing will happen.

It think they are planning to put some thin stick on felt on the inside edge where it can't be seen.

When the roof is up, the flaps are up and therefore less for them to rub on. If you have a problem with them up its note likely to be spring noise I guess.

Yes, my noise is clearly from inside the mechanism. Car goes in for first service (10,000 mi) next month so they can have another look at it.

Hi Ozzie

Do let me know how it goes.

OPC are sending me their expensive silicon gel and some sticky felt they use for this type of thing. I will see if I can use in out of sight locations to improve things. If no success, I guess I will be waiting for Dec when my car goes in for it's first service.

There are many other buzz / squeaks ... one that sounds like it is in the roof itself when up ... but I guess you have to determine what should and shouldn't be acceptable ... it is a soft top after all.

Anyone else's thoughts / experiences ... please let us know.

Best regards

Paul.
