Hi All.
Just been doing some work on the inertia (waiting for paint to dry), I have added some sound insulation 13mm before the carpet, I find the centre consul part of the das won't fit over the tunnel, I never had any carpets in when I got it and assumed there would have been some insulation under the carpet, don't know if I should remove insulation or what, I have chosen a Wilton carpet and that is quite thick as well. any help appreciated

Some even have a whole website dedicated to it. http://www.tvrgit.com for example. Go to the "how to" menu on the left, and you'll see "carpets". I replaced min, and it's all photographed in there.
But the answer to the question is: the sides of the tunnel are carpeted, with some thin underlay or sound proofing maybe, and so is the little cubbyhole behind the gear lever, but the top of the tunnel has no carpet or soundproofing.

This photo shows the old carpets - you can see clearly how far down the centre console goes!
And this photo shows it with the carpet removed - there's a thin white foamy underlay that might be soundproofing, but that doesn't go over the tunnel either. I just left it on (mainly because it was disintegrating into a million particles per square inch if you tried to scrape it off).
My new carpets were much thicker than the old ones, and even at that, it was difficult getting the console over them.
Perhaps the answer is to cut your thicker underlay slighty below where the console goes and then carpet the sides of the tunnel as above, so that the console only has to fit over a layer of carpet?

My carpets are the original ones and there is no underlay on the transmission tunnel. Probably for the very reason you have found. There was some foam underlay stuck to the underside of the carpets in the foot-wells which disintegrated and I replaced with domestic foam underlay. Well as Phillpot said "make a new one", not a new one but a mod on the old one. As one or two of you know I have a Hydraulic handbrake (as well as the normal one), need to be able to remove and fit with the dash in place so I cut the dash into two parts, dash section and centre consul section I have cut the consul in half (long ways) and added 30mm to allow for the thick carpet and insulation, I just need to match up the 2 parts so I have a nice joint when I upholster the 2 parts.
That's it for today so will be finishing it off tomorrow.
I have the old wood insert that came with the Lexus bits, don't know if it will look right for a TVR
