Hi,

My barely month old Boxster has got a stonechip on the windscreen right in the my eye line.

So it will need to be replaced.

Being a newbie to the Porsche world. Would Autoglass fit the same quality windscreen as my dealer? Or would it be best to force my insurance company to pay for the replacement to be sourced/fitted by the dealer

Thanks

Hi mate

Much will depend on your insurer in terms of who can do the work. IOW, whatever was written into the Key Facts (which they should have made reasonably clear for you to see and understand) is what you have agreed to. That said, there are circumstances by which you can nominate your own repairer.

Happy to discuss by phone if it helps; I'll PM you my number.

Neil

I can certainly vouch for Glassman's work. He has done a number of Porsche and BMW screens for me. Top work from a top guy.

+1 to glasstec/glassman. Helped to fixed a stonechip after a trackday earlier this year and was very satisfied with the work done.

OP, try this stuff next time to stop screen damage. I use it, it is excellent.

I recently had mine replaced at OPC Tonbridge. The insurer wanted a £90 excess if I used their nominated repairer or £125 if I used my own. I paid the full bill and got the cheque back within a week.

It is worth noting that one my first call they insisted on using their own repairer and it was only when I was put through to someone else that they allowed me to use my own.

Autoglass did a pretty shoddy job replacing my old Z4's windscreen. I'd steer clear of them.

So had the car valeted last night, now to discover a massive stone chip in the bonnet.

I know a very good bodyshop who will do the touch up, however he also recommended put some protective film on the car.

He gave me a name of a guy who installs/fits this http://www.bodyguarduk.com/cars.html

Anyone had any experience of protective film on their cars? Is it noticeable?

Thanks

I'd forget the plastic and just get the front etc painted every couple of years. They all get chipped, part of the game...

A lot of people have it on car forums, I've got 3M Ventureshield over mine and will do it to every car I own now. Also look at doing your windscreen with Clearplex if you do a lot of highway miles.

Had Expel Ultimate self healing ppf(IIRC) fitted by Paintshield, Peterborough. Not cheap but worth every penny, if you look VERY closely you can see it at some panel edges but at 4 foot it is invisible. Have a word with Tom at Paintshield, very knowledgeable and will gladly give of his time. Website worth a peek in the first instance. www.Paintshield.co.uk

I had Ventureshield fitted to my Spyder from new. Now 4 and half year old and still looks good. I would recommend it.
