Recommended 'luxury' hotels in the Lake District.?

Been to the Langdale Chase for a wedding last year.

Very nice indeed. Great views of lake Windermere and excellent food.
The bride and groom had the boathouse, which is by the lake shore. So the views are excellent.

Gilpin Lodge, by Windermere

Stunning hotel, outstanding food, very cosy (few rooms). Quite pricey, but you get what you pay for, fantastic service. Afternoon tea is just unbelievable...hot dropped scones to die for.
Couple of minutes away from the lake, up a hill.

Don't try the Lakeside Hotel - wasn't impressed at all. I asked to move rooms, but was flatly refused, despite being one of the first people to check in and there being rooms available. Good facilities, though spoiled by ex-EasyJet type attitude staff.
There's another nearby that looked a whole lot nicer - I can't remember the name but I'll look it out if you're interested.

Thanks for the responses so far!
Greg - would be useful if you could somehow remember the name of that hotel!
Have checked with Langdale Chase (nice hotel by the looks of their website - but they can't do Sat/Sun only Fri/Sat).
I was thinking about the 'Holbeck Ghyll' in Windermere - anyone been there?

Another vote for Sharrow Bay:

Right on the lake, and very peaceful too, as it's down a very narrow lane well away from the main tourist areas...allow enough time to get along that lane, not many passing places if I remember correctly. The decor's not what you could call macho but very comfortable and the service in the restaurant is impeccable.

We had our wedding reception at Gilpin Lodge (Crook road between Bowness and Kendal) and it was superb. We have returned many time and have never been disappointed. I don't know the current rates.
Last Monday we were driving round Ullswater (from Windermere) in the Griffith and decided to stay overnight so I called Sharrow Bay. An excellent place. We (wife and I) only stayed overnight before returning to Windermere. They quoted 190 per person per night (dinner, bed and breakfast) for a kingsize suite but I negotiated that down to 100 each as it was about 6pm, considering that dinner is 47.50 for non-residents I thought that it was a good deal. The total bill came to 345.00 for the night (good wine list). As a comparison it cost 49.50 for a crap room (no dinner or breakfast) in a Travel Lodge late one night in the same week.

Regent Hotel, Waterhead (north end of Windemere). I stumped up there unannounced at 9:45pm in the autumn a few years back covered in mud from the Fells. "Room for the night?" "Yes, sir. By the way the dining room is closing. Shall I see what the chef has left? Then you can go clean up ..." 20 mins later was sitting down to duck, venison and a cracking Saint Emillion. And I had thought I was destined for Travelodge chips that night. The service, even from the youngsters, was confident and imaginative and they had a first class chef. Great little hotel.
And if you wanted something real special there is a motor launch that runs a Dinner, Bed & Breakfast type service. The launch itself is pure luxury, sort of a Sunseeker style, you know, the ones you always look at going 'if only'...
You join at Ambleside @ 7pm, cruise up Windermere whilst eating quite a reasonable dinner, drop the other 4 diners off at Windermere, crack open the Champagne and thunder back down the full length of the lake at full whack.. mooring up back where you started where you can either:
1) Go to bed and sh8g like minks.. or
2) Stay up until the early hours attempting to empty his never ending supply of whiskey!
Wake up for a swim in the lake followed by a top breakfast...
Spirit of the Lake I believe it was called.. and it was about £130 pp inc. Dinner (not whiskey!)

If you want to try a nice country pub while you are there with good food and a fantastic selection of beers,... go to the Masons Arms, Strawberry Bank. Good drive out (10 miles from Kendal), great views over Windermere and seats outside if the weather is cooperating. Try the ribs!
Masons arms is superb - Is that the place that has the largest selection of bottled beers in the world??
Hiccup!
