Problem with SRAM X7 Type II gears

Bit of a mechanical numpty so bear with me. So, I have a Boardman F/S, with a 2x10 set-up. Rear derailleur is a SRAM X7. The jockey wheels were wearing out, but instead of replacing them I thought I'd upgrade to the "Type II" version of the X7 - which adds a clutch to eliminate chain slap.

Fitted, but having some issues getting the indexing 100% sorted. Also, ive never seen a rear derailleur at this sort of angle when in the largest ring at both ends:


Has anyone upgraded to a "Type II" version of a SRAM derailleur and found you needed to fit a longer chain? Does that look ok to you?

Havent yet ridden it, just on my workstand at the moment...

Chain too short. (although that gear should never be used when riding, as I'm sure you know)

When fitting a chain, to get correct length, I always put it on smallest chainring and smallest sprocket (another gear you'd never use when riding).
Set chain length so it doesn't quite scrape on itself coming round from jockey wheel towards chainring when in this combination (small front small rear).

Cheers - but the same chain was fine on the old X7 derailleur (suggesting that you do need to extend it for the TypeII, although I cant find that in the fitting instructions or online anywhere). I'll add some extra links and see how it is then.

Looks like you need to adjust the B-limit screw too, the upper jockey wheel looks a bit far from the cassette.

My mate just sent me a picture of his brand new Cube Full Suss - his SRAM deraileur is a bit higher up the pecking order, but is also fully stretched out when in that gear combination, so actually looks like thats how its supposed to be.

Went out for a quick ride last night and it was fine for the first half, then the indexing started going iffy so need to do a bit more adjustment. On the plus side, it does the job and eliminates chain slap!
(oh, i did adjust the B-screw too, ta)
