Has anyone fitted.....? Help please!
Discussion
Hi All,
Just wondered if any of you Pistonheads experts can help? I have purchased a K&N replacement air filter for my 2010 987 Boxster Spyder. There are lots of helpful threads on how to fit the new filter to a Boxster but none for the Spyder that I can find. The mechanic from my local garage tried to fit it but said the access was too tight with the airbox in place as engine access and bodywork are different to the "normal" Boxster.
So just wondering if anybody had succeeded in fitting the non standard part to their Spyder.
The part number from K&N is E-2295 which is same as for Boxster.
I guess the other question is; if it is so difficult to fit is it worth the hassle? Anybody fitted the K&N air filter to their 3.4 Boxster and did you notice any difference as K&N make claims for increased performance by fitting their part.
Many thanks in advance for any help anyone can provide.
Cheers

The filter looked the same size but the guy who tried to fit it said it was much stiffer then the original and therefore really difficult to position it inside the airbox. The instructions are not helpful as all the pictures show the airbox removed which looks difficult on the Spyder as bodywork is in the way. Should be possible to fit it as you suggested but really awkward on the Spyder as engine access not as easy as on the normal Boxster. Thanks for your reply. Just hope somebody comes on who has fitted replacement filter to a Spyder.
I recently fitted a BMC filter to my 987 3.4. Before I bought it, I had the BMC and K&N side by side. The thing that made me opt for the BMC was that it was dimensionally identical to the genuine filter, in particular the part of the filter that slips onto the air box. The K&N is not rigid and cannot hold its shape, so they include a jubilee clip to make it seal onto the air box. No wonder it's hard to fit over the lip in the air box, when your hands can't mould the neck of the filter to the right shape.
As for performance, you won't notice or hear anything different to standard.
What I certainly do recommend is a Revo Technik ECU remap. , in particular the stage 2 map. The engine performance improvement is simply staggering. Absolutely flies compared to stock.
