Ferrari Enzo lapping at Fiorano
Discussion
Adi - I think it will be more than a 100k premium.
Last year the 360 Spyder was listing for £110K and selling for £155K - and that was "just" a stock, non-limited edition V8 Ferrari.
This thing, though, is something very different.
However - I may be completely wrong - remember with the F50? - you could only buy it on a lease. Ferrari did it to prevent this very type of lucrative speculation.
So it's possible that Tom Hartley may be £0 out of the whole thing.....hmmm seems unlikely though doesn't it

Should have added that despite Lambos VERY impressive 50+ sales of the new Murcielago here, I think that the new supercars are not going to sell.
All of them from the W12 to the Carrera GT are all going to be flops (IMO).....
In my experience badge counts for too much at this hyper-car level and I can't see many people buying a £150K VW. Moreover I think the new Bugatti looks like a giant turd compared to the Ferrari Enzo despite its supposed performance.
Ferrari still make the best cars in the world and nowadays they even carry the badges F1 World Champions......

Hi Manu,
Agree re Ferrari being THE supercar brand and the only one to do the hypercar bit successfully (F40 especially) so far BUT...
Whilst I agree on the 'low cred' brand hypercars, I think by implication, if the Murcielago has found 50 punters in the UK (are you sure about that?) then by any non-Ferrari hypercar standards (certainly for the UK) that is exceptional and testimony to the possibility that there may be alternatives outside of Maranello in this sector.
Indeed, whilst the GT1 was a strict 'Dubai Exclusive' in sales terms, the Carrera GT promises to be a more viable propostion to the Monacco & Co set, IMHO. I guess we'll have to see!

derestrictor -
Apparently the world market for 360M type £100K cars is measured in around a few thousand a year.
For lambo/575M/456, £150K+ etc we have a market around the 1000 car mark...
BUT move to a £400K asking price and the world market is around 50 cars (supposedly) - and not everyone can have a piece of the pie....
Perhaps there are just more rich people out there than we think.

Do the manufactures of these hyper-cars actually make a profit on them, or do they make a loss on them.
I know the F40 was the most profitable cars Ferrari has ever made, but this was due to the fact that it was a very basic concept.
Does this still ring true for cars such as the Enzo, which having read the latest Autocar supplement, seems to be a very advanced piece of kit

Ferrari almost always make a profit (288/F40/F50) - but almost every other manufacturer has been absolutely massacred - demand for these Hyper-cars (unless they carry a prancing horse badge) is never as strong as manufacturers think.
With the F40 Ferrari expanded production and still couldn't meet demand which is why the car was so profitable - I think they made around 1300 F40.
The F40 was listing a £192K back on release and was selling for £800K on the streets.

What do you think of the styling?
I know it's been shaped by the wind tunnel but they could have done better, much better IMO. I think they've gone to far with the 'F1 Look' at the front, then there's the back end - It's lacking something!!!
Some of the designs/drawings in the Autocar Supp look much better. One of them had a tiny rear wing which improved the whole look of the car no end.
It's probably one of those shapes that grows on you I guess. I wasn't mad keen on the 360 when that first arrived, but I love it to bits now.
Jay.
