The smallest possible IMHO. The 18" on my 987 Boxster are the perfect match if that helps.

Drive the options you are considering and compare carefully over an extended drive.

I suspect 19s are the best compromise, But I got 20s because they look better, I am that childish.

Mine has 20's and the ride is brilliant. Far better than my last car, although my car has PASM.

The 18's will look lost in the arches. Be brave and go for the 20's.

How fussy are you about cleaning your wheels? The larger they are, the easier it is to get inside with your hand and a sponge.

18's will give you the best ride and possibly the sweeter handing, but they will look totally lost under the arches. The ride on 20's is actually better than my Gen 1 on 19's with pasm.

Agree, the 20 inch wheels look better. But as my mate who is a motor dealer said, FFS!!! Porsche want to charge you 2k more for 20 inch wheels on a base Cayman and keep your standard wheels!! He can get a set of 18 inch wheels and tyres for £450+vat trade.

Thanks for all the advice.......since I change my car pretty frequently....I am trying to spec a Cayman with limited options that I will use and really need but the actual look of the car is very important.

Will most likely go for 18 inch wheels but with the sports suspension option and hope that this will help fill in the appearance of the wheel well with the smaller tyre option .

thanks

The size of the wheel and tyre combination is the same for all 3 sizes, 18" 19" and 20". The larger tyre profile for the smaller sizes keeps the rolling circumference the same and therefore no need for different final drive ratios.
The distance from the top of the tyre to the bottom of the wheelarch will be the same ignoring PASM and X73

Cheers, and to be honest, it wasn't a choice based on looks. A year in, still love the way it rides/handles.

Oh, and seeing as you like the look, here's another, from this year.

Bigger is better, doesn't anybody know this!

I would suggest you get some 22" chrome wheels with spinners from a proper engineering company like gemballa. They can make a Cayenne look like a Ferrari. Awesome.

You will look like a legend and probably get more girls.

Don't forget that the standard rear disc brakes look quite small with the big open design 20 inch wheels, looks about right on the 18 inch wheels though
