Rattle from back of bike at speed after new wheels fitted

As above, I now have a nasty rattle when I go over bumps as about 50+KPH and I can't seem to replicate it on a workstand. I'm thinking it could be the cassette so would removing it, greasing the splines heavily and re-assembling help? When the cassette was swapped over by the LBS the old wheel had a lot of grease on the hub but they didn't put any on the new one.

Any other thoughts before I start to strip the back wheel down?

I had a similar problem, take a look at your cassette, you may find as I did that even with the lock nut fully tight the cogs are not clamped together, I has to add an extra shim behind the stack. It already had one shim as it was an 11 speed wheel with 10 spd hub but needed an extra 0.5mm. A usefull thing to note is that shimano hollowtech BB shims are the same size,and come in various thicknesses.

Loose cassette or a loose spoke?

Spokes are all tight, the cassette shim might be an idea, I think the wheel came with one so I will stick that on, grease the hub and re-assemble before throwing myself down the side of an Alp to see if it has cured the issue.

I had the same thing on my Enve's - did my head in...
Putting the locking nut on the valve to stop it moving cured it: it was moving about just enough to cause a rattle!

Ah, that could be it, but I'm pretty sure one of the valves doesn't have a thread for the locknut (60mm valves on 38mm carbon rims). I left the collars off as I thought they might scratch the shiny rims...

I finally got round to taking the back wheel off today, the cassette did feel a bit loose so I took it off and re-fitted with a shim and some grease before re-setting the gears. It feels a lot better on the stand so will take it for a ride tomorrow and see if the noise is gone. Fingers crossed...

Unless Shimano hub then they usually need a spacer before the cassette. Mavic have their own double width spacer others use the one I think you get with a new cassette
