Took the day off today to complete my first century ride. Following the Castle to coast to castle route from the sportive a few weeks ago and off we (along with a club member who has already done a few centuries) went.

A few observations:

I am very happy to have done it with a riding buddy, I don't think I'd have enjoyed it anywhere near as much solo.
Lincolnshire IS NOT flat, but then I already knew that biggrin
Well chuffed with ticking this off the list.
My arse is killing me weeping

Double metric century next smile

Well done :-)
If you can do 100 miles you can do the 130+ for 200k - its always easier with company.

Its a big milestone, but you'll soon find you can do more!

His Strava activity showed 118.6 miles. Google tells me that 200km is 124.274238 miles. I reckon 6 more miles and he'd have hit the magic 200km. Breaking 100 miles for the first time is such a brilliant feeling. I only managed it once, as far as I can remember, with another ride running it close at about 95 miles, but since joining the GPS/Strava gang the longest ride I've cracked has been 78.6 miles. Four years ago, when I rode longer rides more often, I was working away from home all week, and used riding to 'keep out of trouble/pubs' each evening after work. Back in the comfort of home, I've not got the same drive to ride (on the roads) at night, so my mileage is well down on those days.

CoolC's post, along with others who've posted on the subject, is inspiring me to work harder on getting my fitness back, and as soon as I manage to replace my damaged road bike, I intend to push up the mileage again. I'd like to at least hit 100 miles 'at home' in the Surrey Hills once...

...to the OP - Well Done Alistair !!!!! clapclapclap (That's well over a hundred too).
