another MX5

renders are pointless, I am sitting here with autocar from a last year looking at the render of a La Ferrari, lol it's nothing like the la Ferrari.

renders sell mags, but most are so far out it's laughable 12 months later.

If they build that it will surely have the VW EA888 engine in it. The first Porsche with a Seat engine? Oh how times change... hehe

Plenty of history here for Porsche to use for the 2L engine, I doubt they would go with a stock VW unit. Surely some Porsche magic will be sprinkled.

1976–1985 2.0 litre inline four-cylinder single cam ( 125 hp at 5800 rpm with 122ft pounds at 3500 rpm )
1978–1984 2.0 litre inline four-cylinder single cam turbo ( 177 hp at 5500 rpm with 184ft pounds at 3500 rpm )

My understanding is it's to be current Boxster with shorter front and rear overhangs (bang goes the luggage space), lighter manual roof, a much cheaper interior and the 4-pot engine.

I think it will sell very well if they can get the price right. Probably about the same as the current Elise but at least a decade more modern.

This could definitely be the case - isn't that engine already being used for the non-S petrol Macan that was quietly announced (and is special order only over here).

I wonder how they would fit that into a Boxster chassis ...

Good point actually - I was responding to the suggestion of using that engine given that Porsche have already used it once, but not knowing the dimensions of that engine, gave no thought to that. If they use the Boxster chassis I guess they may need to use a flat 4 to keep it compact.

Who says they are going to use a Boxster chassis? I don’t think that would make sense at all. If anything it would be based on the new mid-engine platform shared between the usual VAG suspects. Audi will make a hybrid, Porsche the sportscar and VW the cheap diesel version.

It has been reported that a production BlueSport model is under development, based on a platform, codenamed Mimo (for Mittelmotor, or mid-engine) or 9X1, to be shared between the Volkswagen Group marques Volkswagen, Audi and Porsche. The Audi version, related to the Audi e-tron Detroit concept car, may be named Audi R4 or R5. A Porsche variant is speculated to be a "spiritual successor" to the Porsche 356 roadster, positioned below the current Boxster as the company's entry-level model.

google "VW mimo" if you need more information or sources.
