Could not believe my eyes when I saw it. You know how you sometimes you just check purely out of curiosity..

So I purchased my old Cayman just under two years ago from the OPC for around £31k, which at the time thought I did a good deal. So around 2 years have gone by and 15,000 miles later, it is sold in part ex back for my Cayman S.

Just checked their website and it is on for £36k. It has somehow appreciated £5k in 2 years with 15,000 more miles. Either I got a really good deal 2 years ago, or there is a very low stock of these cars to charge such a premium.. Maybe it is just a mistake, I somehow doubt it..

It would be nice, mine has gone the other way by a lot since I got it. Means I there's no point in selling it though, which is nice smile

when you consider a new cayman is approx £55 grand with a few goodies included so £35 grand for a 2 year old with low milage will save somone 20 grand
I bought my gen 2 demonstrator cayman very high spec 18 months ago for £35k and i think i could get that back for it

They do try it on with their margins for a month or so and then drop price to a more agreeable level: sold a 997 back to supplying dealer a few years back and it appeared with a 10k uplift on it which dropped to 4.5 after a month and promptly sold.

It's a sort of Rolex effect: Rolex keep increasing their prices so that the watch you bought either holds it's value or increases slightly.

Caymans are now 50-60k so the price is pulling up the used market.

Gen 1 prices are firming up.
Yes really.

18 months ago I was offered 14k.
Last week I had a firm bid of 17k.

I was negotiating a deal with OPC when I decided against it, the next day the price had gone up £3k. I kid you not.

Not only that but on the same day two independant dealers had added £2k and £1k respectively to the Caymans which they were selling.

Listing my Boxster S today on Autotrader.

I purchased it earlier this year from the OPC Network so it has a warranty etc through to 2017. OPC is therefore a good comparison and prices there for 987.2S look very strong at the minute. Hopefully mine flies out the door, particually with a new clutch and fly wheel fitted this month.

I've had a further bid of 18k!

If it keeps going this way I'll be able to sell it and buy a new one*.

Yes, in about 10 years I can see me kicking myself for selling it.

My Gen 1 2.7 is low miles and very fairly priced, I ultimately need to part with it simply because with the loss of a work parking permit its never going to get used (family at the weeekend rule out a 2-seater). However, I'm kind of assuming that most buyers are done for this year and I'll get most interest in the Spring. Not sure how much trickle down effect new prices will really have on a 2008 car, they are completely different markets in my opinion.

With the price of a new car, added to the lower sales these last few years, they had to firm up.
Anyone with a good gen2 thats paid for, would find it hard to justify changing up.
I was offered a great deal on a 997 c2 in 2011, looking at the asking price for similar 2011s now im sorry i didnt.
The depreciation wouldve been small.

Ilduce do you mind telling where you are getting theses bids - part ex from dealer or private sale?

Actually it's all a massive fabrication to start a rumour and raise the world price of Caymans and allow me to sell the 78 of them I have stored in a warehouse.

Anyway, it's neither. My trader friend has had a buyer on both occasions.
Many find it hard to believe but price rises happen to most Porsches eventually. It's not really a price rise though is it, it's just everything else getting more expensive, making its price look reasonable and so dragging it up.

Some cvn't will be along shortly to argue the point. Take a number and get in line.

Thanks. I got a WBAC valuation in March and then by May they'd increased it by £2k and now it's back to almost the same figure I started with. The CAP prices are all a mere £50 down today from what they were in June. Good news for you though.

It's not just Caymans. I get the impression that my 997.2 C4S is worth more or less the same now as it was back in Dec 13 when I bought it. In fact could be worth a tad more looking at current OPC prices and lack of stock. Certainly glad I bought then rather than now. But I expect they will all take a quick shower over the coming winter, I think it's inevitable at some point. Still, I'm extremely pleased with the near zero depreciation motoring this year. I budgeted conservatively for a drop of about £5-6K a year which is now looking very pessimistic.

As for my old 911 SC, that's definitely going north in value. Basically near doubled in the last couple of years. Gives me an excuse to spend more cash on it smile

IMO the very high regard for 981, which is too new to have lost much value yet, is temporarily benefitting the price of older cars. It'll probably revert to normal once used supply works into the system.
