Cannondale evo Di2 good deal?

I was looking to get back into road bikes again and saw this bike at Pauls Cycles reduced from 3700 to 2100. Is this a good bike? And if so why the size of discount? I am aware it's last years model but it still seems a massive saving.

Thats what happens - I bought a 'Dale SuperSix which was 38% off from Pauls.

I have heard some rumours about the Evo and the BB30 bottom bracket creaking - not so much on the standard SuperSix.

Might be worth looking at this stuff on the net.

I would perhaps spend a little less if getting back into it. Maybe a 1k bike and 500 wheels which you will really notice.

Depending on what frame size you need, they also have the Supersix Evo with SRAM Red and Mavic Ksyrium Equipe wheelset, which is damn good value at £2100 in anyones book.

The Supersix is quite a racey geo though, so depending on your build/flexibility and desired type of riding, it may not be for you.

Not trying to be facetious, but why do you say that? Where would you be looking, with that sort of budget? I ask, because I hope to be in that position toward the end of the year, so I'm trying to garner some ideas, and hoping to find some 'good stuff' reduced as 'last years stock' after the summer.

Go for it. Great bike and Di2 is fantastic. Sod geometry. Its a fast bike and we need speed.

Which is all well and good until you realise the bike that has racey position is too much for your back / shoulders / arms etc....

Basically, I don't see anything which is "last years" and also an old groupset as a good deal. You'll be in a much better position next year because you will be able to get a bike with an 11 speed transmission in the sale, as opposed to 6770 which is a bit rubbish really (albeit upgradeable to 11sp with only swapping a few parts). On the other hand, if you're looking at 105 spec level bikes, you won't be in a good position (because 105 is now being replaced). Basically, tings to look out for next year are anything with 6800.

The Canyon Ultimate CF SL 9.0 AERO is £ 2,399 full price now (which is a very good bike for the money) in the sale it'll be a great price. The CF SLX base model is £2,799 so that might nearly be in budget once in the sale. If you're buying a Canyon and you race then there is some sort of offer, the details of which I forget.

The BMC Teammachine SLR02 Ultegra 2014 is £2650, once that is on sale (which it will be) it will be just above £2k. Similarly, the GF and TMR are starting to come down in price if you want a "comfort" or "aero" bike.

Hmmm. I got some abuse on another thread for sounding a bit sniffy about a 'last year's bike' which was nowhere near as good a frameset as the 'dale. Even then I was only (as you are) warning about support/compatability issues, not being a 'snob' about it. Ironic, really as my last 'best bike' and true 'keeper' was bought reduced at the end of a season.

I'll wait and see what the medical experts say, and what level the settlement will be, before planning to spend it. (Don't count your chickens, and all that good stuff ). After all, I may not recover sufficient mobility in my shoulder to ride a 'racier' geometry any more, so I'll need something more relaxed. I just thought you may have seen/heard something negative about the Cannondale, or had a poor experience with them.

On Saturday I bought a evo six - ultrega. I looked at the di2, but I was not sure that it was worth the significant price difference. ( yes I know the frame on the di2 is slightly lighter).

Plus the ultega version is almost in gulf colours.

I was able to get the ultrega for significantly below rrp.

Plus it is this yeas eleven speed.

As to the bike it is superb! Fast and very comfortable.

Change a stem to be shorter, longer, higher rise, move the saddle etc. Its not rocket science. No bike fits perfectly, You will have tailor it to fit you anyway. My wife has a Caad 10 Dale, and she rides it like it needs a basket on the front.........

Other than being boring, and having the rubbish BB30, I have nothing in particular against this frameset.

Which is of course fine if the bike isn't fundamentally the wrong size, and you have the flexibility to get away with only changing those..
You can only raise the bars so high / the stem length so far or the saddle fore / aft so far before you end up with issues that may not be there initially...

Very true, but thats why manufacturers have sizing guides on their websites. Go by that, see if a size is what our need or go to a local dealer or if local, go to Pauls. I bought the wifes Dale from Pauls and using simple guidelines of what was on the site, it fits her well. I also bought my Dale from them and used the same guidlines for there mtbs and its a great fit too. At the end of the day the OP asked about the bike and the deal.
