Hi Guys, another 'which to buy' Sorry!
I'm after a cyclocross bike up to about £1,000.
I already a full sus mountain bike for heavy stuff plus a hard tail which I'm using on the road. I do fancy a roady but there is a 13 mile loop I ride which has about a mile of tracks in it, hence going for a cyclocross bike.
Any ideas would be great!!

I've a Cannondale Caadx, bought summer 2013. mainly for commuting on pot holed country roads.
Love the bike, but have found I've needed to upgrade as I was spinning out.
Now run a 50 tooth chain ring with a 10 tooth rear, with slick tyres.
Even with the 32 spoke wheels, I've broken a spoke, but have managed to put 3,000 miles on her, bike is light enough to carry over gates, with a relaxed riding position.
Did test a Giant, but found the ride harsh.

I can vouch for the Cannondale CAADx, I have a 2011 model with the 105 groupset - great bit of kit, nice to ride, very capable off road, spins along easily enough on the tarmac.
The only thing I didn't like about it was the wheels, so I replaced them with Mavic Open Pro's on 105 hub's after about a year - handbuilt for £220.

Vote here for my Boardman CX Team. Cant touch it for price / spec.
Add a 10% off weekend at Halfords and British Cycling discount on top and its suddenly quite cheap.
Discs and Sram Apex with a road compact crank mean it does commuter duty very well. Mine served beautifully as a winter road bike.
Also a second suggestion of the Boardman Elite CXR 9.0 - Full force 22 for £1500... Wish I'd bought one!

Cannondale CAADX always gets good reviews, but also look at the On One Dirty Disco which is fabulous value and very comfortable to ride.
The question probably also needs to reflect if you want to attach mudguards/panniers etc. Some of these bike (Croix de Fer) are set up well for this type of thing, the Dirty Disco isn't as it's slightly more race oriented.

If you look at the website for Genesis they are slowly revealing their 2015 range. The CDF model and been given carbon forks and they are bringing out a 1x10 clutch mech ali famed bike called the CDA. It's about £850 IIRC.
I'm looking for a commuter/fun bike myself but keep changing my mind. I think ive decided on a Pro 6 built by myself with my own spec. For some reason I also like the Cotic Escapade frameset but figure it's heavy like th CDF.

I've tried one and really enjoyed it. Really good value for money, but I was a bit unsure of the custom / unique seat post design. D shaped rather than the usual round post. However, the LBS is no longer listing them, I'm guessing the 2015 model isn't too far away.
I'm just reading the current Cycling Plus mag and the next issue, out on the 22nd July will have a group test of £1000 cyclocross bikes. The makes mentioned are Boardman, Pinnacle, Whyte, Giant, Genesis and Specialized. Model names aren't given.

I originally bought a Boardman CX Team and thought it was pretty good.
I found that I was using it quite a lot and decided to upgrade to a Crosslight Pro6. I built up the Pro6 myself so it was built up to a spec that I wanted and I have to say it's in a different league to the Boardman.
Obviously the Boardman was a bit cheaper, especially with the 10% off and the 10% BC discount added, but I think that it was well worth paying the extra for the Pro6. I'm currently trying to convince myself that I don't need to save up for the Kinesis Tripster ATR frameset as an upgrade from the Pro6
I was just out on the Pro6 today, 72 miles of roads, bridleways, byways and singletrack in the Surrey Hills with about 4500ft of climbing and it was great fun.

I bought an Orange RX9 a few months ago and absolutely love it!
It's mainly for the daily commute and I have to say that chunky tyres and disk brakes are a fantastic combination for the daily rough and tumble! However, I've just put together a route home that involves a few gentle trails and will be giving it a go next week once I get off the road bike (got a sportive coming up this weekend so I'm riding that for a while).
It's a little over the £1000 limit but is well worth that little bit extra.
