I have spoken with several places selling these tinted rear lights - see other thread on S forum bout this. I havent spoken to anywhere where they are E approved and therefore they are not road legal.

Toying with just going for it but would be interested for feedback. Anyone had any probs with the fuzz with non approved rear lights? last thing i want to do is waste my money and have to put originals back on!

AFAIK the law states that the lights on the car must illuminate the correct colour, but they can be colour differently when not illuminated (does that make sense?)

In other words, you can have indicators that are red, as long as they light up orange...

However, some clusters are NOT E marked since they do not have red reflectors on them...

With regards to the S, your best bet is to get the RS Turbo style ones, as they ARE E marked, as they were fitted as standard to that particular Ford.

Having said that... I do not know of anyone that has been pulled over for dodgy lights... but then, maybe that's just the circles I move in!

Someone here has a Chimaera with smoked lights behind the lens, looks brilliant. Was thinking about doing the same to mine but had never thought of the E mark. Let me know if you find out anything definate Phil?

I sprayed mine with Max Power style black stuff. In the unlikely event that the fuzz complain, you can just remove it with nail varnish remover.

So now the lights do not illuminate to the proper brightness? To me any tinting that reduces brightness is dangerous, I have seen many cars with tinted lights that you could barely see the indicators during daylight hours.

Kevin - I think that depends on how much spray you put on... I'm sure a single coat is just enough to give the effect without too much reduction in light.. but I agree that in some cases it can (and is) dangerous.

As I've said before - best bet is to hunt out a set of E marked ones...

The same places that sell the tint usually sell uprated bulbs to counteract the effect of the tint, and the dimming effect is minimal if you keep the tint to a sensible level (i.e. no limo tints)

I would like to categorically deny any suggestions that some years ago I used that spray on my JPS Capri.

OR you could do what some of the Essex bolot-on boys do... and put a pair of tights (I kid you not) over the light cluster...

Pair of tights - yes I saw this the other day whilst filling up at the petrol station, I couldn't believe my eyes!

Can't work out what is funnier... the fact they've done that to their car, or the fact they had to go and buy them in the first place!

Its the new trend in eurobox tuning. The American Tan touch.

Well I didn't go for a complete black out a la Max Power Festas. I put on the appropriate number of coats as specified in the instructions and tested the output of the coated one against the uncoated one. Naff all difference.

They are still much brigher than my dad's Jag which has factory fitted "smoked" indicator lenses (they look jet black). The difference is that Jag spray the inside not the outside and then charge 200 quid per light cluster.

The stuff isn't E or CE marked but quite frankly they can stick their E marks where the tinting spray doesn't reach.

One thing I regret was taking out the lenses to spray them as I made a complete balls up of reapplying the sealant round the edge. Looks better after attempt number 3.

I tell you what, if you can get your Lada close enough to the back of the Griff to notice the difference, I'll take it off again?

If I could get the Lada close enough you would not need to take it off again (Lada bumper is an RSJ) BTW did I mention the Lada has a Chevy V8 under the bonnet?

OK So I'm a liar

RSJ? Is that a body kit?

Or do you mean iron girder a la Land Rover Defender.

That would be a wolf in sheeps clothing if you managed it!

RSJ = Iron Girder. Put a chevy in and the drive train would probably disintegrate in a cloud of metal bits!

You could just put the Lada shell on top of a sports car. Have you seen the film Condorman?
