Anyone tried Garmin Birdseye imagery?

Afternoon all.
I've just been planning an offroad route on which to take a group of Scouts in pursuit of their cycling badge. It's a nice, easy route, and I'm pretty much certain I've ridden it all at one point or another anyway, but it doesn't do any harm to have it plugged into my Garmin, especially as this is a ride where I can't just trundle around until I find a nice looking country pub!
In doing so, I noticed the option to create Birdseye imagery from my route. Has anyone tried this? Does it have any particular benefits?
I'm using a Garmin Edge 800 with full OS maps on it, if that makes a difference.
