How much does a season cost?
Discussion
How long is a piece of string... not very helpfull i know but there are a lot of variables such as how much testing you do and how many tyres you use, and not forgeting the car. some cars will cost more than others
i.e last season i did 10 test days and used 5 sets of tyres.
you could do less testing and you can do a season on 2 sets easily.. i only used 5 due to the extra testing and looking for tenths plus one set were mainly for the birkett 6 hr relay where the car only lasted 180 seconds doh !!!!!
if i ad the cost of everything i spent this year
entry fees
tyres
fuel( race car and van)
engine rebuilds
food
accomodation ( ok mainly the back of the van)
pre season mods to the car
testing
rolling road sessions
engine mods
GRP and paint...
another spare set of wheels
consumables etc etc
my bill comes to just over 10k and that gave me 1st in class and second overall
This year my budget for the season is about 6k so i'll cut down on the testing and the tyres.
my first 3/4 season cost me about 4k and the second about 6k
so i think a reasonable budget is 6-8k...
But like most things its a movable target. if you've got more money you spend it, if you havent you cut back on a few things.
If you want to talk further drop me an email and i'll call.
what are you thinking of running ?
DOH.... edited to see i see you have an ex challenge car... mmm i might know some one prepping one of those.
cheers

In my rookie season this year I reckon I spent about 16K. This includes the following:-
Race car 7.5K
Trailer 1.5K
Safety kit, helmet, suit, boots etc £600
Timing gear & tools £400
This leaves 6K to run the car for the season. I did two shakedown tests pre-season to get used to the car and two tests during the season, Pembrey (first ever race) and Cadwell (lots of turns so needed to learn track before qualifying). I managed to get away with 3 sets of tyres at £420 a pop. Joo ran the car for me and I took care of any bodywork damage (x3)... 1 thanx G
Thats about it. I reckon next year will cost about 8K plus the new engine for 05.
Bargain!
